My wife, infant son and I were welcomed with open arms into this fantastic establishment. They made space for our giant stroller and were highly attentive to our needs. The waiter was fantastic and helped me pick out a delicious Po' Boy with Cajun style shrimp. Just an all around fantastic experience.Recommended for:

“Gone Downhill!!!! Tourist Trap!!!”
We have visited Hyman's many times in the last 10 years. July 6, 2014 showed us a markedly disheveled restaurant with rude and unfeeling hostesses at the front door. We were told a 15 minute wait which turned to an hour with us asking at lest 4 times for seating updates from the hostesses and finally we directly asked a manager as we saw people all around us being seated. "We'll seat you right away." They put us in front of the bathroom door so we asked to sit upstairs. We were taken upstairs and saw more than one empty table! By this time we are totally frustrated. The waiter brought us beer and appetizers but when we finally ordered we never did get what we wanted. When we finally saw our waitress she offered to box up what was missing. Geez The prices have gone way up in comparison to past visits. We gave up and went home. Terrible
The selection of fish was terrible and the menu was very difficult to deal with.
Makes you think the restaurant has been handed down to someone who does not understand what this restaurant used to be. So sad to see something deteriorate to this point.

Hyman's is consistently ranked as one of the best seafood restaurants in the South. It's a hefty title to carry, and I'm not sure if it's worth the hype. Nevertheless, it's a great seafood restaurant for casual tourists and locals. I highly recommend their shrimp and grits. It's a specialty in Charleston, and they do it really well here. Plus, the customer service is excellent. Do expect to wait in line for a while though.Recommended for:

If you want fried seafood and boiled peanuts, this is your place. It is well known, so the lines to get in can be quite long. Personally, not my favorite. Charleston is well known for an abundance of great culinary offerings. This seems like a typical seafood restaurant.
