Il Gelato di San Crispino - Trevi Fountain

This gelateria near the Trevi Fountain is frequently rated one of the best in Rome. You can only order cups, there are no cones because they cannot quality control the cones. I had lemon and grapefruit—fantastic! The flavours were pure.

Art exhibits on rotation in these former stables. The curation often features lesser known Italian artists or time periods, and the places regularly attracts Romans looking for a bit of culture.

If you're tired of the tourists around the Trevi Fountain, head a few blocks away to the Palazzo del Quirinale and the piazza near it. The wide open space with a view is a relief from the crowds, and the palazzo is simply beautiful. Admire the guards as they go about their business in spiffy uniforms.

The Colonna di Marco Aurelio is one of the most impressive columns I've seen. I absolutely love the detailing going from the bottom up to the top. It's definitely grand.

One of the must visits for Bernini fans. Down the street (Via Barberini) from Santa Maria della Vittoria (which houses Bernini's Ecstasy of St. Teresa).

Sant'Andrea delle Fratte is a late Renaissance/Baroque church dedicated to St. Andrew and at one time was the church of the Scottish people in Rome (as St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland). Part of the building was designed by the Baroque architectural genius, Borromini. Inside are some angels designed by Bernini and intended for the Ponte Sant'Angelo but ...

Piazza Colonna is a nice square, albeit not as memorable, with a grand column and a fountain. The column is the highlight here, with details etched from near the base up to the top. It's quite grand, and it's no surprise that the square was named after it.

Gilda is one of Rome's classic nightspots, and has kept the discoteca tradition alive with shows, its own restaurant, and nightly aperitivo. Any creature of the night should go here at least once.

It's not a large church, but it's a pretty one. Head off the Via del Tritone (near Via del Corso) and take a break with some beautiful arches, lush paintings and glimmering accoutrements.

Hidden in the heart of Rome, near the top of the Spanish Steps, this jazz bar is easy to walk right by. Don't. Cozy, intimate, and with an elegant old-school style, from the wood paneling to velvet couches, Gregory's is a lovely place to spend an evening. The jazz and swing bands that play here are some of the best ...

The Fontana di Piazza Colonna is probably one of the least memorable fountains I've seen. I say this because I was there and have photos of it, yet I remember virtually nothing about it. By normal fountain standards, it's elegant and beautiful. By Roman standards, it's just average.

Monti is an interesting little Roman neighborhood, full of cobblestone streets, great food and wine bars, and very good shopping. Tucked just behind Termini, it's quite central.

Astounding to see in person. It's really hard to describe being here, knowing what happened within the wall of this arena. You should be able to buy a combination ticket at Palatine or the Roman forum that will help skip the long lines at the Colosseum.
