My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the Il Gelato di San Crispino while we were visiting the Trevi Fountain. We were told that most of the restaurants around the Fountain were tourists traps, but one person suggested we try the gelato San Cripinos, we did and we're glad we took his advice.

It's a deceptively humble establishment as far as decór goes. It's nothing fancy, and it doesn't have an artsy gelato display like most others of its kind; but what else would you expect from an artisanal gelateria that does everything organic and preservative-free? My top picks of gusti are Il Gelato di San Crispino (honey-based), Crema allo Zenzero e Cannella (ginger and cinnamon...subtle and deeee-lish!), and Cacao con Rhum (chocolate and rhum). It's pricier than other spots, but worth every euro...did I mention this is one of my fave gelaterie based on taste alone? It's also conveniently around the corner off an alleyway from Piazza della Rotonda (where the Pantheon is).

Lots of gelato places in Rome, but this one is in a scenic, even epic, location. You'll pay for that, but some times you just want an ice cream on a hot day!

We are always in search of excellent, authentic gelato. San Crispino is one of the better gelato shops in Rome. Although it is not our favorite (in terms of perceived value), it is a good choice when visiting Trevi Fountain. It is a small, unpretentious take away shop, offering two types of gelato: creams and sorbets. The creams include flavors such as chestnut and rum, caramel meringue, and licorice, to name a few. Sorbets include lots of fresh fruit flavors in season, such as grapefruit, raspberry and pear. Although a standard medium dish costs around 4.5 euros, you can have two or three flavors for that price. A negative of San Crispino is that you cannot see the rainbow of flavors, as in most other shops, because the product is in closed metal containers. Rome has five branches of San Crispino (including one at Fiumicino Airport).

This gelateria near the Trevi Fountain is frequently rated one of the best in Rome. You can only order cups, there are no cones because they cannot quality control the cones. I had lemon and grapefruit—fantastic! The flavours were pure.

Is there something wrong with me? I simply didn't like this place. The gelato flavors were some of the weakest I had during my 4 week trip around Italy (and I ate gelato an average of 4 times per day). It was sorely overpriced (about 1 Euro MORE per cup than other places) and the employees would "flattten" the scoops so you'd get less gelato in your cup -- a sure sign of greed if you ask me. The gelato was just "okay" and wasn't super creamy or tasty. I would not go back here. There are too many good gelato shops in Rome to waste your time or money on this place. On a positive note, they are open super late.

It's pretty good gelato, but the prices are higher, the servings are smaller and the service is usually average. Rome now has so many more stellar places, San Crispino seems to exist more on hype. I liked it, but I did not love it. Still, it's probably your best bet in the area around the Fontana di Trevi.

I don't care where you get it but make sure & have some gelato while in Italy!! No other place (even if they SAY they have Italian gelato) comes close in deliciousness!

According to some people this is one of the best Gelato in Rome. In my opinion it was just good. I had the "meringue il cioccolato" wich was extremely sweet for my taste.

I think there are many gelaterias as good as San Crispino's, but if you want solid authentic gelato, this is a good spot. Get the hazelnut flavor (nocciola)!

This was the first rock star of Rome's gelaterias I ever visited. It is some exceptional gelato, and offers interesting flavours like honey. It's suitably creamy and intense. The only reason it doesn't get 4 or 5 stars is that the portions are too small compared to the price. Still, if you haven't been, it's worth a visit.
