I loved the Imperial Palace. You could actually just go on vacation there and never leave it. Seriously, it has everything: indoor swimming pool, outdoor swimming pool, golf range, barber shop, medical centre, sauna, fitness centre, karaoke, parking, a range of different restaurants and I feel like I'm still missing some.
The staff were friendly too and the rooms and bathrooms a generous size, with good-looking power showers. But what I liked best was the faux Victorian decor. It's probably not to everyone's taste and it would definitely come across as dated in the UK, but here it was high quality, brand-spanking new and created an atmosphere of class without being too clinical and modern. What added to the experience for me, was an exhibition of futuristic sculptures which gave a distinctly steam-punk flavour to the grand, Vicotrian style lobby. Oh, and the amount of women wondering around with surgical tape across their noses added a distinctly Korean edge to the experience.Recommended for:

This hotel is dripping with the kind of old-fashioned opulence and splendor that makes me want to forsake my life as a penniless writer and choose a career that actually pays. A lot. However, if you don't have that kind of scratch but you an find a caring benefactor to foot the bill, I would say definitely choose this place. Around this area in Gangnam, there are plenty of "luxury" hotels. Unfortunately, most of them have luxury prices without the luxury rooms. This place certainly feels like you're getting what you pay for. The rooms are clean and elegant, with big comfy beds and expensive linens. The bathrooms, while small, are equipped with large bathtubs and showers, as well as the kind of big, fluffy towels that are basically absent in most of Asia. The concierge told me that when making a reservation, request the newer wing of the building, as that one is more fabulous than the other side. Other fun elements of the hotel include a bourgeois fitness center (only open to guest and "lifetime members),' and a mysterious owner who outfits the lobby with new art every couple of months!Recommended for:

This is exactly the kind of spot you'd expect Sherlock Holmes to be hiding out in. Its ornate and opulent decor, with chandeliers, marble floors and tables, dark woods, brass sconces, fountains and marble busts posed throughout common areas is a throwback to times gone by and places more European than Asian. There is great attention to detail everywhere you turn. Guest rooms are festooned in deep, rich shades of gold and maroon and no space is left unadorned. In a few areas, upon closer look, you can see that some pieces of furniture are scratched or *slightly* tattered and should be replaced. However, those are just tiny blemishes on this gorgeous space. This is definitely a hotel for an older clientele, or young patrons with an appreciation for Victorian style. The bathtubs in the suites are huge (more like small jacuzzis), and the suites also have – get this – mirrors above and behind the bed. Perhaps that’s the hotel’s way of trying to compensate for the neighborhood’s lack of nightlife and entertainment! There’s not much going on around the hotel, but Gangnam is only a 10-minute cab ride away.
