The exhibits are interactive ( WWI Trench and Blitzkrieg experience). There are artifacts and art work all focused on the wars of Britain's history.

If you're a history buff, especially of WW1 and WW2 then you absolutely must check out this museum. It's huge with tanks and fighter aircraft in it and some cool stuff on spy craft as well. The guns from a battleship make fir some great pics as well.

There is something of 'toys for boys' about this, but I actually have had fun here with boyfriends, watching them turn into little kids for a few hours. And the planes are cool!

Take a look at the science and technology of war at this intense museum - see various war exhibits, artifacts, and simulations that bring the reality of mankind's control (or lack of) over weaponry. It's an easy way to spend an afternoon, but it wasn't my favorite museum in London.Recommended for:Students

To mark the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War, London’s Imperial War Museum reopens in July following a $66 million renovation with interactive exhibits such as a life-size trench and soundscape, a Mark V tank, and love letters between soldiers and their sweethearts. A new atrium by Foster + Partners better showcases the museum’s iconic objects (Harrier and Spitfire jets, V2 rocket) from various wars around the world.

Great attraction for older kids who are into war. My 8 year old loved it but a little too young to read the detailed information on the exhibits. The blitz experience and trench experince are great but possibly a bit scary for the very young.

It is actually a long long visit, if you want to read all the explanatory boards.
A must for world history fans.
Also, the gift shop has a lot of WW2 stuff, old toy replicas, posters, etc, lots of very cool retro stuff.

Admittedly, I'm an ex-Army guy; but I truly found this to be a great way to spend a couple of hours in South London. I though the exhibits were interesting and informative and went way beyond your 'normal' museum experience. They have a WWI section where you feel like you're in the trenches, and a collection of tanks and planes that's second to none.
