A small zoo, but very clean and well laid out. It is perfect for younger kids who enjoy seeing different animals but don't have the stamina for an all day visit. You can easily make a half day trip and feel you have received your money's worth, yet you can also take a full day and really see all the different exhibits. Don't expect to see 500 different species, but you can expect to see the major groups.

Great day out for young families - lots to do outside so if you're going in summer make sure to go early before it heats up!

Great zoo. You get really close views of the giraffe and rhino. When we were there we got to pet dog sharks and touch a hedgehog. The dolphin show was very good.

Very fun place to go. Lots if variety of animals, great walkways, benches, and shade to make the expedition that much more enjoyable. Lots of photo ops. Enough to do for 3 hours and then more if you want to revisit areas. We doesn't half the day here breaking for lunch, revisiting areas for more pictures a and reading info about the animals. Fun for adults too! It was just me and my husband. Neat items in gift shop also. Easy to find in Indy. Near beautiful canal district also.

Description

Whether traveling with children or just indulging the child that lives in all of us, visiting the Indianapolis Zoo thrills you with its extraordinary collection of animals and exhibits. Opened in 1964, the zoo attracts more than a million people a year. Organized to display animals with common habitats, it features rare animals such as reticulated giraffes, red pandas, Amur tigers and Guinea baboons. The Indianapolis Zoo also exhibits a wide variety of oceanic creatures, including King penguins, moon jellyfish and Pacific walrus. Perhaps most thrilling of all, the Indianapolis Zoo remains the only zoo in the United States that allows visitors to swim with trained bottlenose dolphins.
