    Kuta Beach

    60 reviews

Although it's super-built up with tourism, Kuta beach is a great place to learn how to surf. The waves are steady and the break is sandy (good in case you fall, it's softer). Plus there are plenty of top-notch surf schools here. The one I used was called Pro Surf School and they were great.

    Blue Lagoon Beach

    23 reviews

The town beach for Padangbai, the Blue Lagoon is a delightful place to spend a whole day relaxing and swimming in the turquoise water. The snorkeling is quite good, even if you'll spend a bit of time getting pushed around by the current (don't worry -- it's not dangerous). The warung here also serves cheap and tasty dishes and cold ...

    Gunung Agung (Mount Agung)

    3 reviews

Climbing this volcano was an enduring experience. You start in the middle of the night from the Temple of Besakih, and weave through the jungle, scramble up volcanic ash, and then trek up to the top of the peak for hours in the pitch dark. Then the sun rises over the peak, and you are rewarded with the most spectacular ...

    Mount Papandayan

    2 reviews

Beautiful scenery! There is a site called Hutan Mati or Dead Forest in which the forest is all dried up looking like a lifeless desert. Plus side: the track (from bottom to the top) is pretty gentle, so people who are not so much into mountain climbing can still enjoy the journey to the top. Minus side: smoke emitting from ...

    Karimunjawa Island

    9 reviews

It took me 16 years of living in the country, traveling far and wide throughout the archipelago, before I finally got my act together and made it to Java’s very own island paradise. The Karimunjawa – the 27 islands that make up the island group — are located about 90 kilometers north of Jepara, off the Central Java coast, and ...

    Pantai Drini

    3 reviews

I went there on 2011, the beach was peaceful and quiet. I could lie on the shore for hours without anyone else bothering. I sure hope it stays that way because it wouldn't be the same with other tourists walking around. There were stairs to the top of a hill (if I remember correctly), so we could climb up and ...

    Rice Fields Ubud

    2 reviews

Ubud is located in the center of the island of Bali and it is a truly magical place. Spend a week up here to experience the "authentic Balinese experience." The other areas of Bali are great, but they've become too commercialized and have eroded some of the great culture of Bali. Ubud has some great attractions and tours to take ...

    Munduk Waterfall

    2 reviews

The village of Munduk is only a 30 minute drive from "Villa Riang". Here you will find the magnificent Munduk Waterfall. This waterfall is less famous then the Gitgit Waterfall but according to the Balinese people more beautiful. You have to walk 15 minutes downward on a narrow path to reach the waterfall. Unlike at the Gitgit waterfall location there ...

    Lake Toba

    28 reviews

They once said “all roads lead to Rome”. The same saying applies to Lake Toba in North Sumatra. To reach Lake Toba, the world’s largest volcanic lake covering 1,707 square kilometers, one could choose the easiest way by flying to Medan and continue with a four-hour journey by car. Should someone seek a cheaper way, there are many buses connecting ...

Have a nice lunch while overlooking one of the most scenic peaks in Bali. A little pricey but front row seats of the view on a cloudless day make it all worth it!

    Ubud Market

    12 reviews

This place has quite a lot of things on sale. As it is usual in Asia, the stalls will carry the same things, so you will find about 20-30 stalls that have virtually the same items. It is still good to check more than one as they can have different colours or sizes that other stalls have run out of. ...
