No cockroaches but saw a couple ants. it's dingy and old. Was cheap but not worth the price. Interesting neighbors. Decent location.

I never tried Muay Thai kickboxing before, and I thought it was really fun and enjoyable. It's a solid workout as well. The instructor was effective and reassuring in making me comfortable throw swings and punches. There are definitely more kicks and swings in Muay Thai, but the instructor was helpful in guiding me along with the other participants.

    Men's Store

This is Justin Machus's second Brick & Mortar Store. My first experience with his retailing skills was Local35 (on SE Hawthorne) which opened in 2003 and closed in 2011 after a successful 8 year run. So maybe this is the next step in this particular retailer's evolution. The current Machus was founded with a focus of bringing modern yet classic ...

    Dive Bar

One of my central after work hang-out bars. It's low key, the drinks are cheap, and it's grimy and grungy, and damn comfortable in a booth. Hit happy hour on weekdays from 4-7 for $2.50 wells, $2.75 microbrews, and $1.50 tall boys (PBRs have been standard). Regular prices aren't that much more, so it's worth it to go in any ...

Do you know those black or camo green burlap shoulder bags with the Israeli Air Force symbol on the side or maybe they have the cross of a medical officer. This is the store to hit if you want either one of those, so you can join the elite who walk around the city with the same damn bag thinking ...

Poler Outdoor Stuff has now taken over the Blackbox space formally occupied by Dunderdon. I walked in here a few weeks ago and was both saddened by the formers demise and pleasantly surprised for this new kid of the block. I have previously purchased a neat Polar Stuff duffel bag via their online store, and I was pleased to see ...

I was wandering around the Portland Saturday Market and decided to waddle over to the Duck Store. Compared to its doppelganger in Eugene, this Duck Store is just OK. Of course, I'm not an Alum and hence the yellow/green branded stuff doesn't make me palpitate. On the other hand, the restored historic White Stag Building where it's located (and home ...

Near the historic White Stag sign is the White Stag Block and the home of the University of Oregon at Portland. This complex merges parts of 3 historic buildings: the Bickel Block, the Skidmore Block, and the White Stag and Hirsch-Weiss. There's a lot of history within, around, and underneath. I recently wandered around (and hung out) at this lovingly ...

Half Pint is a cool little "Kicker" Store that features used western-style boots and accessories. They have a very nice and well organized selection, over a wide variety of sizes, with reasonable prices, and in a nice laid back atmosphere.

PDXchange is another Portland correct sort of gift store, but without the edge. Maybe that's because it's located in a new building and perhaps the selection and displays are little bit too perfect. And it's a really cool fair trade store nonetheless. I found some neat stuff that would make perfect gifts.

I was looking for Hand Eye Supply in the Chinatown area, when I happened upon Orox Leather. Martin Martinez and his crew were super friendly when I stopped in to look around at their old school leather offerings. This is yet another high quality Portland design place that the Rose City excels so well. I ended up with a nice ...

Don't go to The Growler Guys looking for good ambience or inspiring atmosphere, it's all about the selection here. They have 40+ items on tap (including cider and kombucha)--both local and not so local--and of course--growlers to go.

Tug Boat Brewing Co. has a homey, intimate feel and is a good place for drinks and deep, serious conversations. They also have good food options on their menu. Last time I was here I ordered the nachos and the serving was huge! Plus, it's right next door to Santeria.

Aztec Willie is one of the main places to go salsa dancing in Portland. The dance floor is large enough to accommodate a substantial amount of swinging hipped dancers. The music is a mix of reggaeton, salsa, merengue, and bachata. They also offer salsa lessons too.

Portland Rock Gym is the main place to go for top rope climbing. The gym also has a small bouldering wall. The walls are long and vast. There's a section for the beginning climbers, but most of the routes are intermediate or difficult.
