Our tour group had Lunch at this Intercontinental Hotel. It's a pretty and well-appointed Hotel within an unremarkable urban mass called Athens. The Lunch was a delicious buffet and a welcome mid-day respite.

Odeon of Herodes Atticus is one of the best ancient theatres to visit in Athens. It has the most remnants standing, it's currently still in use for local entertainment, and the view from top is breathtaking.

If you visit the Acropolis, you should really consider visiting this museum as well. I don't think I really had a sense of the rich history or what the Acropolis would have been like until I saw the museum. Great views of the Acropolis just up the hill and amazing exhibits. It really adds historical context and brings the Acropolis ...

You Can't go to Athens without going up to see the Parthenon. It is the focal point of the city and the view dominates where ever you are at. It is fascinating and I would highly reccomend getting a guide. To go up there and not have a clue what you are looking at is defeating the purpose of going ...

A "must visit" place of Athens. It's story is quite interesting but the most impressive is the size of the temple. You won't be able to believe how could people living thousands years ago could ever build something like this!

Essential if you're going to the Acropolis. It gives so much context to what you see and also has so, so much information you could easily go twice and find new things. As with the Acropolis, I heard several tour groups going through the guides were literally quoting from the plaques I was reading the whole time. No new insight ...

This is a fun bar in the center of Plaka that caters mostly to foreign tourists. It is modern and the music is amazing! It is striking because when you first enter you are struck by the bottles of alcohol all lit up in front of you! A must if you are a first time visitor!

I would recommend visiting on a day when there isn't a protest, but those seem few and far between lately. If you do go, be sure to find out when the guards change their station. Between the uniforms and their march, I thought the changing of the guards in Athens was better than at Buckingham Palace.
