The outside is very deceiving, as it looks like a dilapidated, grey, office complex of some kind, but once you walk inside, you get a terrific hotel experience. The lobby is large and inviting, as well as beautifully decorated, and the rooms are just as nice. Although it is located on a quiet street, it is just minutes walk from the Zoo, a transit hub and shopping hotspot. With a restaurant, bar, and spa, it has everything you could ever want from a hotel in Berlin, and is big enough to be perfect for business as well.

With a very modernized and stylish interior, I left the hotel wondering why the outside does not fit the interior. I still haven’t figured it out, but if you don’t get put off by the rather rusty and plain facade then you’re in for a treat. The thing that mostly stuck out to me about this hotel is the friendliness of the staff, visibly having fun doing their job and showing interest in the guests which is always nice to see especially when you're a frequent traveler. The rooms are clean and the beds are just amazingly comfy. The multicolour lighting system is pretty unique too and something I'd never seen before.

The hotel is located in the western part of Berlin, close to the Zoo (you can actually see it from some rooms), KaDeWe and the Kurfurstendamm area which is great for shopping. The breakfast buffet was abundant and fresh, if you can get it included in your room rate then lucky you! If not then it might prove too pricey every morning but it's definitely worth at least one try--the Japanese soup was novel and tasty. Make sure to take full advantage of the comforts of the spa before heading up to Hugo's (InterContinental's luxury eatery on the 14th floor), it's a great way to start an evening.

The InterContinental has a couple of nifty tricks up its sleeve, with multicolored lights in the rooms and a unique interior decor throughout as well as three great places to hang out during your stay. Go to Marlene Bar (a tribute to Marlene Dietrich) to people watch and enjoy some snazzy cocktails before or after eating at the fantastic Hugo's restaurant. Then on the weekends head to L.A. Cafe where the hotel hosts a great brunch service. All in all there's no major flaws to this hotel. Very nice and relaxing and worth every penny.

The quirky nature of this hotel really sets it apart for me. That doesn't mean it's a circus, on the contrary, they know how to run a hotel and show guests comfort, care and a good time. It's pretty big, so go and explore the spa, the bar and one of the restaurants before you see what Kurfurstendamm has to offer as the hotel's own establishments are definitely worth a try. The first hour's internet is free, which is OK for checking mails but the price for a whole day (20 euro) was the only fault I can find with this wonderful hotel.
