I had always heard about this property and the great views of the harbor. I had also de-prioritized it because I don't like the Kowloon side as much and the hotel itself looks a bit dated on the outside. There is also very stiff competition from other properties and Intercontinental usually doesn't hold muster vs. Four Seasons, Mandarin, and the Peninsula.
Consider me a convert!
This is an exceptional property and has to be one of the best Intercontinental hotels. The service is exceptional -- tea in room on arrival, coffee with your wake up call, etc. Very friendly and attentive team. The rooms were also quite spacious and had excellent bathrooms (all marble and very similar to the Peninsula across the street).
The best feature of the hotel is it's jaw dropping views of the harbor. The view is incredible and it is well worth the extra money for a harbor view room. There is always the risk of bad weather / haze but this is as good as it gets. I slept with the curtains open and had room service set up breakfast at the window so I could enjoy a few more minutes of the view. This truly is worthy of it's listing in 1,000 Places.Recommended for:

Luxurious hotel located right on Victoria Harbour on the Kowloon side. Conveniently located next to the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR, Sogo department store and steps from Nathan Rd. Fantastic views! Definitely get a room with a harbour view. Top restaurants including 1 Michelin star Yan Toh Heen, Nobu, Spoons from Alain Ducasse. Awesome breakfast buffet, afternoon tea in the Lobby Lounge. Great gym, pool and spa. Fabulous 5-star service all the way!Recommended for:

One of Kowloon's two great hotels. Beautiful interior. Lobby lounge has amazing cocktails. Service is excellent but not quite exemplary. The rooms are better on the harbour side.Recommended for:

This is a fantastic hotel in a great location. Be sure to get a harbor view room. It is so worth the extra money. We had a view of the light show each night at 8 pm from the room. It was like watching a parade go by at other times of the day. The staff was very accommodating and the room was lovely. It had a wonderful bathtub and a separate shower that had great water pressure. It was a welcome respite at the end of the day.

My world-wide favorite bar is located in the hotel. The view is beyond spectacular! I once had a 6-hour layover in Hong Kong while traveling from Singapore to the USA west coast. Took the train from the airport to the stop nearest the hotel, had two drinks with friends and a quick supper and back to the airport from the remainder of the flight.

The Intercontinental is by far my favorite place to stay on the Kowloon side. Good location close to Nathan Road and all the TST shopping districts. Rooms are very comfortable and the lounge is the best in HK. Also has very good restaurants with in the hotel. The Steak House here is my favorite place for steak in the city.

The InterContinental is once of the nicest hotels to stay at. It's right on the water front and the Avenue of Stars passes right infront of it.
Since it's on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong ... if you've got the extra cash I'd recommend upgrading to a room that oversees the harbor. It's a wonderful experience to see the beautiful lights from the Hong Kong island ... and each night there's a laser show and the best view is from the InterContinental.
