A top choice for high-end accommodation near Circular Quay, the Opera House, and the Botanic Gardens, I love the InterContinental's classic sandstone facade and beautiful lobby lounge, with brick arches and towering ceilings. Rooms have absolutely stunning views, with choices of the city (cheapest), eastern harbour (more expensive), or Opera House (most expensive). They're also extremely plush and well-maintained, and service is exactly as on the bounce as you'd expect from a name this big. Great pool and gym, as well.

I'm not big on my chain hotels, but the Intercon in Sydney scores for its location and some pretty decent service too. Although you'll pay a premium for it, make sure you bag a harbour view room. What's the point in staying here, otherwise?Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

I had such a wonderful experience at the InterContinental Sydney hotel! The inside was absolutely beautiful, as it was a restored Treasury Building from 1851! It is in a prime location near the harbor, walking distance from the Opera House, Botanical Gardens and plenty of great shops and restaurants!
The Club InterContinental Lounge access is totally where it's at! Rooftop view of Sydney, delicious complimentary breakfast/tea time and free wifi!

This hotel has one of the lushest lobbies I’ve laid my eyes on. Part heritage building, part modern high-rise, the Intercontinental is very large and very busy. There are the usual features including a business centre, wi-fi (at a charge), 24-hour gym and a pool. You can take High Tea in the beautiful, decadent lounge, and the ‘open-air’ ceiling entices you to sit all day and do some serious people watching. In regards to the bedrooms, there is a choice of views – city, east Park, Bridge, and the Opera House. If you have spare cash or want to treat yourself, upgrading to a Club room gets you access into the exclusive rooftop Club Intercontinental. Even if an upgrade is off-limits, there are amazing harbour views from the pool on level 31. Disappointingly however, despite the rooms being spacious with large windows and lovely outlooks, the rooms themselves are lacking character and I found the windows to be in need of a clean. Perhaps an upgrade is worth the extra money after all?Recommended for:Business Travelers
