The water was a warm and relaxing turquoise blue when I went there back in 2010. The beaches (known as Playa Blanca) are beautiful. If you're coming to Isla Baru, don't take a tour that meanders all over the place, such as stopping at a nearby aquarium. Go straight here from Cartagena. It will take at least an hour, but it's so worth it. You won't regret it. Also, try to stay overnight on the island.Recommended for:Backpackers

ISLA DE BARU (PLAYA BLANCA) IS BEAUTIFUL! THE WATER IS WARM AND THE PEOPLE ARE SO FRIENDLY. THE FOOD IS AMAZING. I RECOMMEND TAKING A BOAT WHICH IS THE SAME DISTANCE AS DRIVING. THE DRIVE IS ROUGH AS THERE IS A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION AND UNPAVED ROADS. IT'S DEFINITELY A MUST DO!
