    360 Istanbul

    Misir Apt. K:8 N:32/309, Istanbul 80600 Turkey

360 is the powerhouse of rooftop bars in Istanbul with 3 venues across the city. The Taksim branch has a restaurant, bar and club. The bar serves very good cocktails though the food is not that highly touted. However, along with the view, the club really sells 360 Istanbul. They regularly host the best DJs that are in town and ...

    Maiden's Tower

Salacak Mh., Salacak İskele Ar Sk 17, Istanbul Province/Istanbul, Turkey
    12 reviews

Most tourists don't know what it is but they usually recognize the small tower in the middle of the Bosporus. Originally constructed during the ancient Greek period to monitor traffic on the Bosphorus, the tower has been enlarged and rebuilt by various empires. Today the tower is a fine dining restaurant with one of the most spectacular views of the ...

    Çiya Sofrası

Caferağa Mh., Güneşli Bahçe Sokak 44, Istanbul/Istanbul Province, Turkey

A Kadikoy institution with tables spread over 3 buildings on one street. Ciya does an amazing selection of salads and cold food, which is priced by weight, as well as fantastic kebabs. They also serve yemek, which literally means food but usually means home-style food such as stews. Delish!

    Galata Tower

    Bereketzade Mh., 34420 Beyoğlu/Istanbul, Türkiye
    9 reviews

My poor rating is not due to the tower's historical architecture or the amazing panoramic view. The view is phenomenal, however there are some terrace restaurants with a similar view very close to the tower, where you can have a kebab an ayran and a tea for the price of a ticket. The inside of the tower is modern, it ...

    Alemdar Mh. 34110 Fatih/Istanbul, Turkey

Turkish ice cream, called dondurma, is known for its chewy, elastic texture and for being slow to melt (both a bonus for those who like to take a long time playing with their food). In addition to the usual combination of milk and sugar, this dessert gets its unique qualities from two extra ingredients: mastic and salep. The former is ...

    Pierre Loti

    8 reviews

Pierre Loti cafe sits on a hilltop overlooking the upper reaches of the Golden Horn. It takes a ferry and a gondola to get up here but the view along is worth it. Try the Turkish coffee.

Ciğer means “liver”. Loved by expats as well as Turks, Canım Ciğerim is a relatively new but very popular spot highlighted for its delicious liver shish kebab. The menu includes other types of meats while tapas are plentiful and pita bread is delicious.

Ever since dining at Zuma for our first anniversary, my wife and I have made a point of making our anniversary dinner the most extravagent meal we eat each year. While I was in Istanbul, writing for Time Out magazine, Istanbul won the Time Out Food and Drink Award for best new restaurant in 2008. Set right on the Bosphorus ...

    Saray Muhallebicisi

Tomtom Mh., İstiklal Avenue No:173, Beyoğlu, Turkey
    6 reviews

Dessert is a big deal in Turkey and Saray is a classic place to visit. They have branches all over the place but the one on Istiklal is the original. Go for one of the classic dairy desserts (sutlu tatli) or one of pastry dessert such as baklava or kunefe (cheese based but very sweet).

Tophane is one of the best hookah spots in Istanbul, right off of the tramline and conveniently next to the Istanbul Modern there are dozens of hookah cafe's to choose from. Unfortunately they do not serve alcohol (as many hookah places around Turkey do not), but the hookah is well prices with many flavors and you can grab some Turkish ...

    Gani Gani

    13 Kuyu Sokak
    2 reviews

During our three years living in Istanbul, Gani Gani was the restaurant that we loved and visited most. The decor is authentic Anatolian although the restaurant is located in a maze of streets near Taksim in the heart of Istanbul. Our waiters were always very friendly, never rushing our service in any way. The food is phenomenal. Gani Gani makes ...

    Hamdi Restaurant

    6 reviews

Nice spot for kebabs - not casual though, white tablecloths. Somewhat touristy but ask for a table on the top floor for views - a lot of Turks dining when we were there. Great mezes. Near Spice Market so might be nice for lunch after day of touring.

    Kızılkayalar Hamburger

    Suadiye Mh., Kadıköy/Istanbul, Turkey
    5 reviews

Kizilkayalar supported police violence during Gezi uprising last May, about this time. Ironic as most of their clients were on the streets protesting police brutality which took 8 lives. If you care about human rights & proper democracy you should know that owners don't support those values.

    Karakoy Gulluoglu

Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa Mh. Mumhane Cd. 34425 Beyoğlu İstanbul, Türkiye

This is a famous baklava place, and rightfully so. We went in not really knowing what to do and a nice man working there helped us out, picking our baklava types for us. It was delightful.

    Inci Pastanesi

    Hüseyinağa Mh., 34435 Beyoğlu

Well, sadly, as I am writing this, I found out that this amazing bakery which had been around since the 1940's, has been forced out of their historical location to make way for more cookie-cutter, characterless modern stores, in an area well on it's way to erasing any cultural context and becoming one more giant strip-mall of the world. Ok, ...

Gümüşsuyu Mah. Tak-ı Zafer Cad. No:3 Daire:B, Beyoğlu, Istanbul Province/Istanbul, Turkey
    3 reviews

The two main attractions to eating at Kitchenette are the decor and the outdoor setting. In the summertime Bebek is one of the most fashionable districts, especially at night. Dinner by candlelight at Kitchenette surrounded by young, chic Turks and Europeans is one of the best ways to feel in touch with modern Istanbul. Kitchenette's western fare is not bland ...

    Asmalı Mescit Mh., İstanbul/Istanbul, Türkiye
    3 reviews

I've never actually been here but my wife and I used to order food from Picante online using Yemek Sepeti, Istanbul's main online delivery service. It was definitely the most serviceable Mexican food in the city.

    Green Corner Cafe Restaurant

Cankurtaran Mh., Caferiye Sokak, Istanbul Province/Istanbul, Turkey
    3 reviews

For a cafe right in the heart of tourist town this place is surprisingly relaxed and relatively cheap. It's literally in the shadow of Hagia Sophia and across the road from the exit to the Basilica Cistern. The gozleme (filled flat breads) are very good and I can also vouch for the Turkish coffee.
