    Grand Bazaar

    4.5
    127 reviews

The Grand Bazaar is a must on your visit to Istanbul, Turkey... Just be ready to haggle over prices. There's everything from jewelry to carpets to leather bags... and LOTS of Tea.

    Basilica Cistern

    4.5
    87 reviews

The Basilica Cistern is the largest of ancient cisterns that are hidden underneath of Istanbul. It is quite an experience to visit it (it takes about ½ hour, the line may be long to get in but it’s worth waiting). As you enter, you would see a huge underground pool of water, lined with rows of columns. The lighting and ...

You are undoubtedly in a Holy Place. An extravagant building. The architecture and relics are astounding. Ladies, remember to respect the traditions and customs and cover your head, shoulders accordingly.

Hagia Sophia is a truly incredible building with a fascinating history. Located in the center of the Sultanamet district immediately across the plaza from the Blue Mosque it is impossible to miss. If you are here don't miss the basilica cistern right around the corner!

    Galata Tower

    4.5
    69 reviews

Totally underrated! I read about it but it was never on my must-see list and I think it is absolutely the best first stop to make in Istanbul! It gives you tremendous perspective of the city surrounds and the building itself conveys the strong history of the city.

    Topkapı Palace

    4.5
    107 reviews

Topkapi Palace is one of the most important historical sites to be visited in Istanbul and my favorite one, only a five-minute walk from the Blue Mosque. The palace was not only the private imperial residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1465-1856), but also an administrative center. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, it holds important ...

    Bosphorus Cruise

    18 reviews

A Bosphorus cruise is a great way to get a feel for Istanbul, while seeing many sites on both the European and Asian sides of the city. Cruises depart regularly from Eminonu.

    Funicular

    17 reviews

There are actually two funiculars in Istanbul. The one pictured is Tunel, which has given its name to the surrounding neighborhood at the end of Istiklal Street. It carries passengers down the hill to the Karakoy neighborhood and is one of the oldest subways systems in the world. The other is the brand spanking new system connected to the metro ...

    Cable car

    4.5
    2 reviews

This is the most random part of Istanbul's public-transport network, and to be honest, I was nerdy enough to make up some random excuse to ride it--it's not like it fits in really logically with major sightseeing. But you get to ride a little gondola across a gorge filled with trees--in the middle of the city! Talk about cheap thrills...

    The Spice Bazaar

    4.5
    98 reviews

I loved this bazaar!!! It was smaller than the Grand Bazaar and really easy to navigate. The sights and smells were fantastic and I found myself wandering back day after day. You can find any type of Spice or Tea that you you want. I would suggest maybe trying and then maybe buying some Apple Tea,a local delicacy that is ...

    Eminönü

    4.5
    30 reviews

This is a place where the word "crowded" is re-defined. Its a must for a tourist to see once for a lifetime but not a place I'd prefer to be every day. Good shopping opportunity here. Not for branded goods but more of traditional turkish style carpets, jewellery, spices etc. Beware for little boys trying to sell you perfumes or ...

This palace has such amazing history behind it, but is also remarkably beautiful. I believe it is best viewed from the water so look out for it if you take a boat tour!

    The Old City

    4.5
    15 reviews

The Old City of Istanbul is essentially a triangle bounded by water on two sides and the Theodosian Walls on the third. Inside you'll find most of the major landmarks: palaces, mosques, churches and other landmarks. The Old City is more of a tourist destination while the residential and commercial districts of Istanbul can be found north of the Historic ...

Enormous and beautiful mall in Şişli, close to major bus, metorbus and metro terminals, so the mall is easy to get to. Literally you can find almost anything in the world you need in this mall - it has especially good home appliance stores. January is the month for sales so stock up then!

    The Museum of Innocence

    4.5
    3 reviews

This is an amazing museum was created by celebrated Turkish author Orham Pamuk and is a companion piece, if you will, to the book of the same name. It's based on a museum described in the book and he curated it as he wrote the book, finding objects then working them into the story or, in some cases, finding they ...

    İstanbul Akvaryum

    4.5
    21 reviews

Really well laid out, there is a section for each aquatic region. A little smaller than I expected, but overall very nice and a great way to spend a couple of hours. It's also attached to the Forum Mall so you can make a day of the whole thing. It would be a great place to take kids, but my ...

    Sultanahmet Square

    4.5
    51 reviews

This area is directly beside the Blue Mosque. We were visiting Istanbul during Ramadan, so everyone was out after sunset with their families, there were live bands and food vendors everywhere, it was great fun. I do suspect it is still a nice place to hang out after dinner during the rest of the year as well!

    Port of Istanbul

    4.5
    12 reviews

It's a bit surreal to watch an endless line of cargo ships stream past ancient ruins, but that's what you get in Istanbul! The port is such a vital part of the city's function and character.
