The home of some of Italy's most incredible taste treats (and this is Italy, so that's saying a lot), Northwest Italy and Piedmont host some incredible winemaking and white truffle hunting.

Ah, so this is where the tourists are in Umbria. Much of Umbria was so quiet, but buses full of tourists descend upon Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis. Grand churches abound in Assisi, and the view of the surrounding countryside is stunning.

Loved Orvieto - great weekend getaway from Rome. This is an amazing city to explore wine in - see if you can find any wineries open to the public that are doing wine or olive oil tastings, taste as much as you can!! Also, eat as many meals as you can, lounge around in the parks by the city walls, ...

City by the coastal area. Travelling into the city from Milan southwards see a winding road and lots of big trucks. Do extra care if you ever travel on own. Better to reach the city before dark falls would be advisable. Any case, for me, i travel during summer; long day light :)

It's a given that the ruins of ancient Pompeii are a sight to behold. One may not realize until being there, however, how grand the scale of this preservation and restoration project is. There are vineyards being planted, façades being recreated, streets being clearly delineated, and the list goes on. There's even a small exhibit of human bodies that were ...

This is a city that always seems to be busy - there's always something to do and see even if its just wandering through the streets and people watching. I visited multiple times and loved it.

I would hit the South of Italy as well. The North is fine at that time, only if you go to the very north. But that's another topic. check this video out and get inspired on Basilicata region http://vimeo.com/35270855

Pisa is famous for the leaning tower, but it is so much more than that. The historic center is lovely. The baptistery is one of the coolest buildings I have ever seen. Unfortunately it can feel at times like a tourist trap; nevertheless, it is still worth visiting

UPDATE: It pains me to say it but as it is, I don't think I'd recommend going to Cinque Terre. Almost all the coastal hiking trails are closed, meaning that the only way to get town-to-town is by train. It was insanity. So many people, so hot and even the hikers who wanted to get to more difficult trails were ...

If you're going to be near Siena, and you have a few hours to kill, I absolutely have to recommend going to San Gimignano. Like many other towns in Tuscany, San Gimignano is at the top of a hill, overlooking the countryside below. You can only arrive by bus or by car (buses run from the nearby Poggibonsi-SG train station ...

A village built on the vertical and offering views of the sea along the way down Positano is truly unique. Very touristy these days but retains its charm.

Cagliari in Sardinia is warm destination all year (i did last swim on 3 November) and it's really a great fun; the city centre - Marina & Castello - is pure movida on night, local restaurant, plenty of attraction and live gig (rock & theatre). It still a cheap destination where you can eat for resonable price. What else, for ...
