You don’t have to be an Ivy Leaguer to see why one of America’s most beautiful college campuses anchors one of the country’s most romantic towns. Its inhabitants may be quirky (No. 3 on our survey) and love their wine (No. 4; check out the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail), but this central New York town’s prime appeal is its scenery: more than 100 gorges and waterfalls, running quick in spring and speckled by a blaze of leaves in fall. Students of the heart should stop for a kiss alongside Cascadilla Gorge’s eight waterfalls, dropping more than 400 feet from Cornell’s campus to downtown’s Ithaca Commons.

Mostly known as the home of Cornell University, this smallish city in upstate New York is in a very scenic region with a lot of lovely waterfalls. Great when the leaves turn.

This place is full of gorges and waterfalls, and if you've ever wanted to see the world's best fall foliage, there's no place like it. Great food, great scenery and great people.

Small university town in an idyllic setting right on the finger lakes and home to Cornell university. Check out the Cornell campus which is lovely and if the weather is nice check out the nearby countryside

This is a small city in upstate/western NY that has a lot in a small area. The home of Cornell University (great campus to walk around), Ithaca College, falls, gorges and Cayuga Lake. As it is a college town a number of activities revolve around the various schools and events. It is one of those towns that you can come back to many times because things are always happening.

Ithaca is Gorges. That is the college town's slogan because the many gorges that dot the town are gorgeous! The four seasons here is very distinct. Cool springs, hot summers, colorful autumns, and COLD winters.
