I had driven by the Its Tops Diner dozens of times - they have a sign outside boasting they have the best pancakes in SF. Finally I decided to try it - and lo and behold they were right! This is an original, small 50's diner/coffee shop with red vinyl booths. Their secret is an old, cast iron griddle, that holds the perfect heat. The pancakes are huge, fluffy and all around awesome. Great milkshakes, too (yes, you can have them for breakfast).

This joint is swimming with antiques, from the register—which delights guests because it goes up only to $5.99—to old waffle makers, pans, and juicers on the shelves. The tables have built-in 1950s jukeboxes, and there are larger, Seeburg copper ones from the ’40s as well. The menu is a mix of old and new, with classic hand-dipped milkshakes selling just as well as the recently added stuffed waffles. Savory ingredients like bacon and cheese or sweet ones like chocolate and walnuts are poured directly into the batter and come combined hot off the iron.

Opened in 1935, this historic diner sits along Market Street inconspicuously missed by many a local. I visited with friends for a french fry break but did not realize its significance until much later. It's Top's Coffee Shop is a small and friendly joint, serving up traditional diner food in an area that's mostly bars and fancy restaurants. If you're looking for a casual place to grab a bite in the area, this could be your place.

It is not a gourmet coffee shop, but a diner. However if you are looking for a great breakfast experience it's the place to go! It is still in its old 50’s diner style and brings you back in time. The place is really well kept and the food is just sublime! It is an out of this world breakfast experience and definitely a place to go back to. I also liked the fact that the waitress was dressed in a light pink old style uniform!
