Ivar's is a Seattle institution, and the location is wonderful because you have a view of Lake Union... but the food is so-so. Service can be slow and hectic on a busy evening especially in their bar because it's basically happy hour all night. Their clam chowder is the best thing on the menu, and that's about it.

Northlake is deep in the heart of the UW Campus/biking/hacking part of Seattle. just down the street from Gasworks park. It's a GREAT restaurant (the best of the Ivar's IMO) right on the water. Well worth the drive from RedmondRecommended for:

This is the main Ivar's, the one with the sit-down restaurant, the historic Native American artifacts on the wall (including a giant carved wooden kayak -- gorgeous), and the huge menu filled with dozens of classic Pacific Northwest fish dishes, yummy international appetizers and a great selection of the classic Ivar's fish and chips or (my personal favorite) fried clam strips and chips.
My favorite thing to do is to kayak (see my review for the Northwest Outdoor Center) over here, tie up and have lunch. You just can't get anymore Seattle than that.
