    The French Quarter

    0.12 mi from Jackson Square
    120 reviews

It's the tourist thing to do. You can't go to NOLA and not go here. The bride whisked away for lunch in the quarter. As we drove up there, I was amazed by the architecture, the sights, sounds, and seeing cops on horseback. I was bummed that it might be raining during our trip but supposedly this is considered a ...

    St. Louis Cathedral

    0.03 mi from Jackson Square
    63 reviews

The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France (aka St. Louis Cathedral), is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans. It has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating cathedral in the US (since 1794). I'm not Catholic, but I appreciate an excellent European-style Church, especially the calm opportunity to reflect and consider life's puzzles. The ...

Pat O'Brien's and their Hurricanes are legendary but it's not my kind of place. It's got a major fratboy vibe but if you're into that kind of scene and have a lot of money to spend on drinks go for it.

Originally built in 1750 as a private residence, the building has since evolved multiple times – from a tavern, inn, photo studio, and art gallery – into what we finally know as Preservation Hall, the sanctuary for New Orleans Jazz music. Opening in 1961, the concert hall has nightly shows by veteran and newcomer musicians alike, featuring regular performances by ...

There's a New Orleans I've dreamed of visiting as a kid, full of good food, soulful music, romantic courtyards and flickering street lamps. Then there's Bourbon St. Comprised mostly of tacky bars, strip clubs and souvenir stores, this neon mess could make Las Vegas blush. It's a messy frat party—great, if that's your thing—but you can't escape the disgustingly sugary ...

Any bar that opens at midnight is 5 star in my book. Yes, you heard right. A bar smack in the middle of Tourist Central (The French Quarter) can give a rat's ass about maximizing your hard earned cash. This place is the real deal, true to the bone darkness and borderline scary. I like that. And I think you ...

A double-literary landmark, this charming bookstore takes up residence in the Pirate's Alley house where William Faulkner once rented a room. Separate bar with beautiful wooden columns and an intimate setting with live accoustic music and of course great food provided by the chef next door (try the sampler - delicious and plenty for two). Excellent place to start off a night of pub crawling and live jazz and a less expensive way to sample Antoine's legenday food.

I visited this place in 1993 and I still can remember how it felt. We entered in the garden and a jazz band was playing like hell and we couldn't sit still. Food was good and during happy hour, prices on drinks were more than reasonable. I still have the cup I bought there. Good memories!!!!!
