Description

The pleasant green square located near the waterfront of New Orleans serves as the home of the statue of Andrew Jackson. Originally called the Place d’Armes, it was renamed in honor of the United States general in 1815, after his victory in the Battle of New Orleans. Bars and restaurants border the park, and the legendary Cafe Du Monde is just across the street. Carriages stop near its entrance, marked by four striking light pillars. Three 18th-century historic buildings sit at the square’s north side, which served as the city’s center during colonial times.
