    New York Grill

Park Hyatt Hotel, 52F, Tokyo, 13 160-1055 Japan
    5 reviews

Stunningly gorgeous and expensive. A great surf and turf spot with stellar views of the city. Definitely more enjoyable if you are traveling on an expense account but worth a visit for a special occasion. For a budget-friendly alternative, visit for brunch. The brunch course is good value. You won't get the night time views but you may catch that ...

    Ladurée Shinjuku

    Shinjuku Lumine 2, 1F 3-38-2 Shinjuku-ku, Shinjuku, Tokyo 160-0022
    3 reviews

The same tasty goodness that you will find in France but tucked away inside the Lumine at Shinjuku station. The atmosphere feels very commercial and less authentic but the macaroons are perfect.

    日本, 東京都港区南麻布5-2-40
    2 reviews

My favorite Western restaurant in Tokyo. Excellent Mediterranean food served in a relaxing minimalist environment. My favorite dishes are: - spicy Moroccan crab cakes - manchego with membrillo and pumpkin seeds - hummus w/ flat bread Reservations are highly recommended though you may be able to get a seat at the bar on short notice. The new location in Aoyama ...

    XEX Daikanyama

    日本, 東京都渋谷区猿楽町11−1
    2 reviews

Luxe roof top Italian in Daikanyama. Get your Italian and Bali fix all in one spot. The food is solid but the decor is the highlight. A seat outside is a must. Used to be a private club but is now open to the public.

    Bulgari Il Cafe

    Jingumae 5-10-1, Shibuya-ku
    1 review

Sitting out at the terrace at Bulgari for lunch is one of my favorite Tokyo indulgences. This restaurant / cafe lives up to the brand hype. The food, atmosphere, and service are all excellent. Bulgari servces up the freshest buffalo mozzarella that you will find in Tokyo. The portions are small but the course menus are good value. Just be ...

41/F, Park Hyatt Tokyo, Tokyo, 13 Japan
    2 reviews

This is the poor man's NY Grill. Great atmosphere, lovely views, and solid Western food. Girandole will definitely impress. Certainly suitable for a date or business meeting. I wouldn't visit as a tourist but a good spot for long term residents or frequent visitors. Note: the private rooms are inexpensive but aren't fully enclosed. Provides a feeling of exclusivity but ...

    Sheraton Miyako Hotel 1F, Shirokanedai 1-1-50, Minato-ku
    1 review

Excellent Szechuan restaurant in an elegant setting. Shi Sen (literally, Szechuan) serves up consistently delicious Tan Tan Men, Mapo Tofu, and Kung Pao anything. A bit pricey vs. most Szechuan restaurants (2,600 JPY for an entree and 1,500 JPY for a bowl of noodles but) but very nicely done with the tingle of genuine Szechuan peppers. A good place to ...

    Shisen Chinese Restaurant

Sanjo, Keage, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, KT, Japan
    1 review

Nice Chinese spot. Billed as Cantonese but has a variety of different types of Chinese food. I wouldn't normally recommend a hotel restaurant but the views here are nice and the food is excellent. Great if you are here on business and have already seen the sights.

    開花屋 BY THE SEA

    日本, 東京都渋谷区円山町23-7

Great fish restaurant and suitable for western palettes. Go for the 4,000 JPY course they do. It gets busy.

    New York Grill

日本, 東京都新宿区 西新宿3-7-1 2 パーク ハイアット 東京 52F
    2 reviews

Doesn't sound Japanese and the food isn't really either, but this is the restaurant in which they shot Lost in Translation. Great view of the city there and up on the top (52nd floor) of the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku. Not cheap but do a great brunch.

新丸の内ビル6f, 1−5−1, Chiyoda, Greater Tokyo, Japan
    5 reviews

I think the Tokyo outlet of this Sydney restaurant is better than the original. High quality innovative modern fusion in an attractive environment with attentive service. Perfect for a business dinner or special night out. The pre fixe dinner is exceptionally good value given the quality level. The wine list is extensive and pricing isn't egregious for Japan.

Good food, great place, and so many tourists you will forget you are still in Japan. Very reasonably priced and very friendly staff. Should do at least once while in Tokyo!

    Zarigani Cafe

原宿パークマンション 1F, 6−11, Shibuya, Greater Tokyo, Japan
    3 reviews

If you can overlook the "Smoking OK" policy, this cafe is a great off the beaten path place to relax over coffee or a drink. Sophisticated but rustic ambience.

    Granny Smith

11-5 Minamiaoyama 5-Chōme, Minato, Greater Tokyo, Japan

Best apple pie I have had in Tokyo. The country music and Cracker Barrell ambience is cloying after a few minutes but the apple pie here is damn good. My Granny Smith would approve.

    Chopstick Cafe

    1-21-6 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Shibuya, Japan
    2 reviews

Excellent izakaya with good food, atmosphere, and friendly staff. The aburi saba (torched mackerel) and fried corn are exceptional. A great place for tapas-style Japanese dining. The menu is only in Japanese.

    Two Rooms Grill

    Kita Aoyama 3-11-7, Minato-ku, Tokyo
    2 reviews

The bar here is more impressive than the restaurant and has great cocktails and views. The restaurant serves a mix of Western food. Dishes are good quality but the pricing is high and the service is awkwardly formal at times.

    Yurakucho Yakitori Alley

    7 reviews

The alley lining the elevated tracks near Yurakucho Station in central Tokyo is famous for yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). Having a few skewers and an Asashi with salarymen fresh out of their offices in the financial district is an awesome experience, and quintessentially Tokyo.

    Sushi Dai

    日本, 東京都中央区築地5-2-1
    5 reviews

Make good use of your jetlag and get up early (like at 4am) to get to Sushi Dai when they open at 5. Otherwise be prepared to wait up to 4 hours in line. We got there at 5:20 and ONLY had to wait 40 minutes. The sushi is top notch and the omakase is a fairly good deal.

9−2 1丁目, Minato, Greater Tokyo, Japan (Caretta/Dentsu Building B1 underground)
    3 reviews

Located in under the Softbank building in Shiodome, this restaurant serves up the strangest combination of food that I have ever declared to be one of my favorites: curry udon with a tempura banana. Strange? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely. Don't knock it until you try it! I was taken here by coworkers in Japan, and it was one of my favorite ...

    Angkor Wat

    1-38-13 Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
    3 reviews

Insanely delicious Cambodian food. Though it takes guts to do it, the best way to experience this restaurant is to say "omakase" and let the owner serve whatever he likes until you are full. The prices are reasonable and everything I have had here (except the Mekong whiskey) is good. My personal favorites are the spicy chicken salad, the fresh ...
