"Sure I go to school. Same as you. I'm an American"
Of all the times that I've been to the Portland Saturday Market, I've completely missed the Japanese American Historical Plaza at Waterfront Park which is just North. I'm really glad I didn't miss this and the nearby Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center during my walk.
Haiku-engraved broken stones, cherry trees, and a cobblestone pathway line the walk. Add the river view, the black entrance pillars, and you have a quiet place to contemplate about this sobering and shameful era in our Country's history. Reading the words on the stones also helped me reflect on this, my own world, and the lives of those that are considered "The Other".
