I have been coming to SF for years now and this was the first time I have been to the Japanese Tea Garden. There is actually a tea house in the garden. The entrance fee is a bit much for what it is, $7. I wish the garden was bigger than it is. You can be in and out in 10-15 minutes (or less).
Also, they do not have a student or military discount. :( My favorite part was the giant Buddha statue and the little squirrels running around. :)
The garden is located right next to the de young museum.

A little pricy to get in, but its a cool date spot on a cold day. Enjoy all types of tea while sitting in the shade next to some very cool views. The half circle stairs is worth walking over.

So I was flipping channels one night and up popped these stunning visuals of the Japanese Tea Garden. Located in Golden Gate Park, I set out to find the stunning spot, by foot. It is as beautiful as I hoped, scenic and serene. If you go there on Mon, Weds, and Friday between 9a-10a admission is free.

Yes, they get crowded as hell, but if you can manage to dodge the masses by coming early or coming late, this specimen of classical oriental landscaping, complete with picturesque pagodas, bridges, and water features is the best the city has to offer.

I'm a big fan of Japanese-style gardens anyway but this one is very pretty and well worth a visit if you're in SF. It's also set in the wonderful Golden Gate Park with its lovely walks and great museums. Make a day of it.

$5 if you are a student or an SF resident, $10 if you're not. It's a pretty small garden but worth a visit if you're ever in the area of the Golden Gate park. My favorite Japanese Tea Garden has to be the Portland one, but SF has a nicely maintained one as well. There's a lot of views and photo opportunities inside the garden. There's designated pathways and a lot of greens to look at. It's a nice place to go with family.
