This is an excellent repository of information about the history of apartheid presented in a very confusing manner. We had to be told several times that we were going the wrong way. And when we went the correct way it wasn't necessarily in an order that made sense.Popular with

This is a great place to do some souvenir shopping. Dozens of stalls sell authentic, well made African crafts. My favorite thing about the set-up is that on the upper level, it's much like a regular shop with more or less fixed prices. On the lower level you can shop in true African fashion and haggle.Popular with

Intercape is a great option if you find yourself having to travel overland through Southern Africa. Their buses are comfortable and clean. The service is good. They've got both standard and sleeper buses, most with entertainment, refreshments, and toilets.Popular with

Constitution Hill as three, somewhat intertwined, points of interest. It is the site of an historic fort, parts of which were later utilized as a prison. In the early 1900s Ghandi was imprisoned here. During the apartheid era, male political prisoners were sent to Robben Island, women prisoners were imprisoned here. Today, the Constitutional Court has its chambers here. All ...Popular with

Located in the suburbs of Johannesburg, this sprawling botanic garden is gorgeous, complete with a waterfall, beautiful lawns for lounging, walking trails and a native plant garden. With a bottle of wine and a picnic lunch, this is one of the loveliest places to spend a morning or afternoon while in Johannesburg.Popular with

Remarkably eclectic, only a small portion of the museum's collection is on display. But what is displayed is visually appealing and intellectually stimulating. The museum operates on the premise that in addition to paintings and sculptures "art" also encompasses many artifacts with aesthetic appeal.

A massive structure that adjoins Constitution Hill, there are no signs indicating this is where Johannesburg's official life is located. In fact, I asked several people walking in the vicinity what the building was and none of them knew. Public tours are not available but the building provides a number of photo opportunities.
