The design of the Apartheid Museum and the way a visitor is self-guided from depictions and explantations of the sorry history of apartheid makes for a solemn but oddly satisfying experience.

And PLEASE don't treat it like an "Human Zoo" like some people do. Be respectful and you will meet some of the ...

Constitution Hill as three, somewhat intertwined, points of interest. It is the site of an historic fort, parts of which were later utilized as a prison. In the early 1900s Ghandi was imprisoned here. During the apartheid era, male political prisoners were sent to Robben Island, women prisoners were imprisoned here. Rosebank African Crafts Market

The Mall at Rosebank, Cradock Avenue and Baker Street, Johannesburg, South Africa
    4.5
    8 reviews

I never would have known about this place, located in a nondescript mall, if it weren't for the Gogobot reviews. Thanks! This has the best selection of African crafts and art work I have seen or heard about. You probably won't find antiques but there are plenty of gifts to take home. Be ready to haggle about the prices.

    Wits Art Museum

    1 review

Remarkably eclectic, only a small portion of the museum's collection is on display. But what is displayed is visually appealing and intellectually stimulating. The museum operates on the premise that in addition to paintings and sculptures "art" also encompasses many artifacts with aesthetic appeal.
