The JFK Memorial Plaza is a large open space with an ugly monument in the center. It's four concrete Ls the define an empty space in the middle. With everything that JFK did or accomplished, I would like to have some hint that the memorial was something about him and not a terrible abstract art project. Most people seemed to have mistaked the JFK Monument for Dealey Plaza, the site of his assassination.

Two X-s visible on Elm Street mark the spots where the bullets struck President Kennedy. The Grassy Knoll was the location where unsuspecting Abraham Zapruder filmed the assasination that changed the history of the world. 6th Floor Museum; The Life and Times of John F. Kennedy is adjacent to the plaza at the corner of Elm and Houston Street.

Not what I was expecting - very grim. But this is an important place for younger visitors to see because of its historical importance to their parents and grandparents. This place changed America for that generation just like 9/11 changed the country for the current cohort of young people.

Here's the grassy knoll where supposedly a second shot was fired at JFK. Not confirmed though. You can walk these memorial grounds free of charge and read the signs and plaques explaining that sad day in American history.
