Definitely one of my favorite countries. The awesome historical and natural sites, the fascinating culture- at once so exotic and yet so familiar, the food, and the friendly people... all incredible. I am so enthusiastic about this place. I'm sure part of this has something to do with two of my favorite movies: Indiana Jones (Petra) and Lawrence of Arabia (Wadi Rum) but, really, that only partially accounts for the sites.
I am also having limited time in Jordam, thus I designed my trip with a rent-a-car as follows - overnight in Madaba (it is close to the airport), then straight to Wadi Rum. Then spend a day and the night in the desert. Then go to Aqaba and have half/full day of diving. Then go north to Petra and hike around for a day. You can enjoy the Dead Sea also from Israel, so try crossing the border somewhere close to Dead Sea. Personally, I do not like the big cities (i.e. Amman) so I plan to skip it :)

Jordan can be a dangerous place. On my way to see the ruins of King Herod's castle, the place where John the Baptist's head was served up on a platter, two guys tried to kill me. I mean, why else would they get on the bus with a container full of gasoline and light up a cigarette right next to me? Don't worry though, I didn't die (at least not yet, anyway). I personally recommend traveling with your skateboard (as I was) because if you are, transportation, even if you're going to see the place where Salome, the legendary seductress (that's a stripper to you and me) was served Prophet Yahya's noggin' on a silver tray, is a not a problem. The killer views of the Dead Sea there make King Herod's Castle one of the most beautiful places in the world to get decapitated. So if you go to Jordan (and you should) bring your skate and your sense of humor, both will come in VERY handy :-)
