Great price, great location. It's an old motel that looks straight out of the 50's that has been redone and made into a cool modern hipster hotel. There's a great bar and there are always lots of bands playing downstairs. A pretty hip place to stay. Make reservations early though. It books up pretty quickly.Recommended for:

This boutique hotel on East Burnside, within easy reach of downtown Portland, will not appeal to everyone but it does have a lot of sensual character.
Located in an area that appears slightly depressed, this converted fifties/sixties style hotel is marketed as to what might be called trendy. The staff are very friendly, courteous, and enthusiastic about this motif of the hotel, and the owner's vision of a mecca for a more "avant garde" type clientele.
In that sense they are selling an idea that would not appeal to a more sophisticated traveler who may not see a live rock band playing outside their room in the evening as that appealing, especially at standard room rates that could be found in good hotels with full amenities in downtown Portland.
For those who do seek a trendy hotel, this establishment will not disappoint. It is very clean, and the rooms have a certain familiar sixties allure with upgrades. Those guests who are old enough may experience deja vu!Recommended for:

Super stylish and trendy boutique hotel similar to Hotel San Jose in Austin, Texas. The doors are chalkboards with chalk included in the room. The interior decor is modern and sleek with beds low to the ground, and the soaps and body lotion in the bathroom are organic and actually moisturizing, not diluted with water like many hotel sundries. The hotel is connected to a bar and diner that serve delicious food. The bartenders are awesome as well. And at night, there's a fire pit guests and friends can socialize. Great place!Recommended for:

The last decade has seen a major revamp of the close-in stretch of East Burnside street, which was once known as a hotspot for prostitutes and junkies. Leading this sea change is the Jupiter Hotel, a trendy, affordable hotel that was, once-upon-a-time in the 90s, a tawdry budget motel.
The Jupiter is clean, well-maintained, and miles apart from its former incarnation. The staff here are ultra-friendly and all of them seem to love working where they do. The lobby area houses a small art gallery space, with exhibits rotating on a monthly basis. The rooms here have creative features such as chalkboard doors and they recently started a wine club. Lunch and dinner are served in the excellent Doug Fir bar-restaurant next door.
The hotel is also popular with minor rock stars on tour, including those playing at the Doug Fir and other local venues (they offer discounted rates for bands).Recommended for:

Love the concept of a mid-century remodeled motor inn. The rates are affordable and competitive to some of the more run down 2 star hotels in the area.
The walls are thin and the biggest complaint is the noise. When you check in ask for the quieter area of the hotel. Just know that you will still hear hall noise and possibly the tv from your neighbor.

The Jupiter Hotel has a bad reputation, but it's trying the change that. However, it's still the run down building that used to rent rooms for a couple of hours, allegedly for drunks to sleep it off. If you're the partying sort, which I'm not, you might like the energy of this place. I, however, was mostly annoyed by the loud and obnoxious club kids.Recommended for:

The Jupiter is a stylish resurrection of an old 60's-style motel. Cool design touches throughout, and chalkboards on the doors so you can leave notes for fellow lodgers. The Doug Fir Lounge is on premises - by day, it's a fantastic breakfast spot, and by night it's one of the best music venues in town. Having a rock club directly under your hotel has its trade-offs, though - it's easy to stumble home after a show, but if you aren't partaking in the fun, it's LOUD and you shouldn't count on getting much sleep until the shows clear out. If you are just looking for a good night's rest, stay somewhere else and check out the Doug Fir during the day.
