Visited Taipei recently for the first time. Decided to stay in Ximending due to its close proximity to Taipei Main Station. Ximen Station is just one stop away.
Just Sleep Ximending is located on a busy main street, Zhonghua Road. While it is in Ximending, the hotel is away from the well trafficked parts of the area without being too distant to be inconvenient.
It is easy to get here from Ximen Station. Look for exit 5 and go to the farthest exit. You will walk past an underground library while on your way here. Please note that there is no lift though, so I would suggest taking a taxi to the hotel instead if you have plenty of baggage.
Once you reach street level from the underground walkway, you will see a 7-Eleven which is in the same building that the hotel is located in. The hotel does not occupy the whole building, but I didn't find that to be a problem as the hotel lobby is on the ground floor.
Just Sleep is a boutique hotel which has a stylish look to it. I was given a room on the 8th floor which had a great view of Ximending. The room is full of cute stick people imagery. It had about all the amenities I wanted including a sitting area, a fridge, a selection of local teas (including oolong) and free Wi-Fi. Though the Wi-Fi was quite spotty. I had to constantly to switch networks to find a good connection. Overall, I liked my room as it was comfortable place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing. Housekeeping did a great job of keeping my room tidy.
Each morning, the hotel offers a breakfast buffet in the 5th floor café. It was mostly full of items like mantou (steamed buns), congee (rice porridge), fresh fruit, eggs, sausages and Western style breads. There was not a whole lot of variety, but it was a filling meal before I headed out. If you don't want to eat breakfast here, there are many breakfast spots nearby if you want something different. And if you want a coffee drink later in the day, you can come to café to have one which I think is a great offering for guests.
Lastly, I appreciated that I was able to leave my baggage in the lobby after checking out. My flight was leaving the evening, so it was nice that I was able to get some last minute sightseeing in before heading to the airport rather than having to tend to my belongings. The hotel staff was great throughout my stay and the lobby staff speaks English which is another plus about staying here.
If you are looking for a good moderately priced hotel to stay in Ximending, I would recommend Just Sleep.
