- JW Marriott Denver Cherry CreekFirst to ReviewNov 02, 2013
The JW Marriott feels like money (and it’s located in Cherry Creek, the swanky part of town, which doesn’t hurt). It’s been decorated in high-end Western chic—turquoises, deep leather seats, animal patterns, and retro wallpaper. That, plus a roaring fireplace in the lobby where guests flip through John Fielder picture books, and staff members happily bring them refreshments. The rooms themselves are sumptuously decorated in the same style, many with deep tubs, others with floor to ceiling showers, all with standard high-tech amenities. The hotel also is far enough from downtown Denver that there actually are some unobstructed mountain views; if you’re angling for one, ask for a room on the west side of the building. The restaurant on-site—Second Home—serves high-end comfort food; it’s a classic brunch spot for Denverites, so it's packed on weekends. My only reservation about the JW is that it doesn’t have a pool—not a deal breaker, but being a luxury hotel, I think it should have one. (Family Travel Translation: It’d be a bummer to show up and not find a pool on-site.)

First things first: be sure to ask for a room with mountain views. The JW has some of the best mountain views of any hotel in Denver, and to see the morning sun turning the snowy peaks a pale pink is one of the city’s sublime joys. The rooms themselves are pretty joy-inducing too, with top of the line beds and amenities, and large bathrooms with sleek stand-alone tubs, glass-walled showers and ornate wallpaper. And I appreciate the rich blues and browns used on the walls and carpets—what an improvement over the beiges and grays used everywhere else. You wouldn’t be staying here if you didn’t prefer Cherry Creek to downtown, and Denver’s swankiest neighborhood remains a great place for high-end shopping and leisurely stolls. I happened to visit the JW on a Sunday when the hotel hosts its famous “pajama brunch”; basically, the kids play games and watch videos in an adjoining play room, while parents down mimosas and 2-inch thick slabs of French toast. No pool is the only bummer.Recommended for:Family Travelers

This is a great escape from reality. Perfect for a vacation night away from home. Beautiful bathroom with large soaking tub, great views of the city, and convenient location to shopping and restaurants. The staff brought up a complimentary cheese try and wine to help us celebrate our anniversary and it was amazing! All local cheese and honey. The avalanche cheese from Longmont was so good. Well done Marriott!
