This hotel has that kind of gold/marble chandileery opulence that a lot of people like in a luxury hotel. There's none of that Japanese minimalist inspired design that's popular with a lot of big hotels lately. So it's fancy looking, and I like what the pool, tennis court, and spa are doing there in the name of fancy opulence. What I find kind of confusing, though, is that almost all of the food outlets are actually in a mall/plaza that you get to from one level below the lobby. As nice as the places are, restaurants in a mall feel like a food court to me.
They are fancy restaurants and there are a lot of choices, as in there's one Chinese food restaurant that serves pork, one Chinese food restaurant that doesn't serve pork, a Vietnamese food place, an Arab food place, an Indian food place, a specifically Malaysian place, and also the restaurant that serves the complimentary breakfast for the hotel. I don't particularly want to have my first cup of coffee in the morning below ground level in a mall, though, even a luxury mall.
But the Marriott is big with Arabs before Ramadan in July and after Ramadan when the middle east is hot, and some vacation in Malaysia where it's a bit cooler, they don't have to worry about making sure food is halal, and they don't have to apply for visas in advance. So maybe The JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur is sensitive to the middle eastern appreciation of the fancy gold look and comfort with relaxing, socializing, and doing business in modern air conditioned mall-like complexes.
At lobby level, there's a beautiful tea place with cakes and chocolates and macaroons made by a pasty chef in the hotel, but in the end I couldn't sit there because malls, even luxury malls, just make me feel poor and anxious.
I feel I've strayed a bit from the topic in this review. The rooms are nice, although, since the Pavilion mall was built across the street a couple of years ago, there's no view of the Petronas. Apparently, though, I've never taken it, but there's a walkway from The Marriott all the way to the Petronas (KLCC) which takes about twenty minutes to get to.

This hotel is extremely Grand as though it boasts of Royalties are constantly staying there. The doorman is extremely efficient because everytime i walk he will open the door and say something nice to me. The swimming pool and the spa is as beautiful as the hilton in KL but still looses the advantage of view. I'm amazed although they are attached to starhill gallery which is one of the most expensive shopping complexes in Malaysia, their lobby and reception counter still makes a stunning impact that it still feels like a hotel unlike doubletree by Hilton. It is also very near to most of the highly sought after japanese buffet namely Jogoya at Starhill Gallery. There is only one thing which makes me feel uneasy is that the people working in the mall and the security. The security there doesn't look like security guards at all they look more like bouncers in a club. I notice everyone is wearing a jacket or a coat on which makes me feel inferiorated. Even though I am as plain as I am the service still treated me as someone to be of same importance as the patrons here. The rooms are really nice and clean but they looked like they are somewhat old in a way because of it's conceptual structure. All the restaurants are located at the basement except for one at third floor.
