As you arrive, you take an elevator up a few floors to check-in. This lobby area has a chic little bar and restaurant. The rooms are more classic with gold and neutral colors. However, the bathrooms have dark marble and feel more dated than the room itself. It's conveniently located to hot night spots-Ruby Skye, Slide, and The Redwood Room, so it can attract young party people. A block or two is the heart of Union Square.

Gayle and I spent a marvelous night here as part of our annual Holiday escape to the City. I sometimes spend a lot of time traveling on business and Gayle often helps me out with child care and house coverage. So this is a nice way to cash in some of those hotel points, show Gayle a good time, and say Thank You!
The polite service at this J.W. Marriott lacks the attention to detail and extension that I have experienced at the J.W. in Houston and the very few times I have spent at other higher-end hotels. For example, I would have appreciated a little help at the entrance towards guiding me to the Lobby which is on Level III. It's not obvious to the beginner. Also the guy at the morning coffee bar seemed to just be going through the motions. And then there was the long line at morning checkout with only one staff member working.
But the positives here far outweighed the negatives. The person checking us in was friendly and very helpful in confirming our walking directions to our Kung Pao Kosher Comedy event that night. The hotel itself is in a great location near Union Square. The room was large, nicely appointed, comfortable, and had a very handsome marble-accented bathroom. The atrium was also impressive, as was the layout of the Level III lounge and restaurant areas. Gayle and I very much enjoyed just hanging out.

We stayed at the JWM over the weekend - the room was not very clean, it was very noisy on the 5th floor (window did not seal right) and the breakfast we ordered with our package was NOT delicious. Will not go there again.
