After a run on the beach, I found a hammock and laid in it to watch the sun rise. The beach came to life around me. Yes, Kaanapali is the tourist/resort section of Maui, but it is a wonderful place to base your stay. We stayed at the Hyatt and enjoyed every minute.

Gorgeous, but very busy with people from all of the restaurants and hotels right on the beach. Grab a drink at a beachside bar, then enjoy the sunset.

Follow the narrow boardwalk that leads south from Honoapiilani Park to Black Rock for a scenic and pleasant way to get your morning exercise and see a side of Ka'anapali you might otherwise miss. The pathway meanders, taking you roughly along the shoreline, past some of the area's finest resorts and restaurants, through lushly landscaped resort grounds, skirting a golf course and a few tourist shops, overlooking a long beach, into and around parking lots...it's a bit nuts. You'll end up traveling about 2 miles round trip. Bikes and skateboards are discouraged. The most you'll contend with are joggers warning you they're coming up on your left or right.
Take the Honoapiilani Park access road, directly across from the Times Market, in Ka'anapali. No charge to park and there's a restroom there. Walk toward the beach, near Duke's Beach House restaurant, and you'll end up on the boardwalk.

Just a short drive from the condo, the Ka'anaplai beach boardwalk is a great way to get your morning walk. The snorkeling at Black Rock is great, often see turtles right up near the rocks. Stay away from the open sea, there is a strong current offshore.
Great restaurants at the Whalers mall about half-way up, and the Maui bus company runs a bus between the Banyan tree and the Whalers centre.

One of the best and cleanest beaches in the world. This is just off Ka'anapali and right next to some of the best shopping on this side of the island, Whalers Village.
Bring some beach chairs with you for sunset and watch the torches being lit and the divers off Black Rock at the north end of the beach.
Parking can be an issue though, so couple this with some shopping and get your parking at Whalers Village validated.
