I can only give this place four stars because I've never been to it myself, but I've heard only rave reviews from just about everyone else I've ever met. Apparently, you can do the full spa thing - massage, body treatments, etc. - if you've got the cash, but for a mere $22, you can enjoy the communal baths, with hot and cold pools, sauna, steam room, and bath products. It's a crime I haven't visited yet.

A traditional (well, almost) public bathhouse in Japantown, Kabuki Springs is one of those places you may have heard about for years in SF, but never been yet. Seriously, just go. But check the website first to see which days are women-only, men-only or co-ed, and don't bring along any friends that are shy about their bodies!

A tranquil retreat, be it a couple hours or a day, in the heart of Japantown. The public bathhouse is free if you get a message, or available for a minimal fee ($20-something for the whole day) sans the message. I felt very refreshed by the time I entered bright daylight again.

Great spot for a relaxing evening. I was lucky to get an aryuveda massage from a friend and it was purebliss.

The place is quiet and your room not only has the typical massage table, it also includes a small tub to soak after the massage. Amazing!

Suggestions: Best to take public transportation to this place or else park in the kabuki shopping center.

So relaxing after a long day. Sauna, steam room, hot bath and cold plunge. It's pretty much silent, too. Spend a couple hours here and come out refreshed.
