Kailua is a laid back beach town on Oahu's eastern Windward side. It's got fabulous Kailua Beach, Lanikai Beach, lots of vacation rental homes, good hiking and great places to eat.Recommended for:

Ideal perfect spot! Kailua is the perfect balance of the hustle and bustle of the south shore (Honolulu/Waikiki areas) and the north shore. The beach is like pristine sugar, the water can reflect gorgeous gradation of blues and vibe, well, hey, its Hawaii!...laid back and casual. Definitely check it out.

About a 20-minute drive over the pali (mountains) from Honolulu or Waikiki, Kailua is a little beach town on Oahu's Windward Coast. For families, it's a great alternative vacation destination to crowded Waikiki. Here, for the same price as a hotel room in Waikiki, you can rent a cottage or apartment within walking distance of the beach. Because this is a residential community, you've got everything you need right in town, like supermarkets, shops and a smattering of okay restaurants. Don't miss a smoothie from Lanikai Juice!Recommended for:

Kailua is such a cute small town. It's a great little community, the people are friendly, it feels safe, there's lots of shops in the center of town, and has so much to offer. From the town center, it's a short stroll to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. There's lots of little local eateries that are popular with lines out the door. It doesn't have too much of a nightlife, and I think locals like to keep it that way. Kailua is definitely a place I'd recommend and take visitors to.Recommended for:

I love this area!!! It has more of a beach town feel but also offer's many great things like a giant Whole Food's and great places to eat. It also has the most beautiful beach in Hawaii which is Lanikai beach... Also above that is the pill box hike which offers some of the most amazing views on the Island!!!

Kailua is the part of Oahu not in the North Shore that's most like a Roxy ad. The beach with young surfers and the quaint town serving as its accompaniment are definitely worth a visit. It's a bit crowded now, making commuting to the beach a bit of a test of patience sometimes. Still, there's plenty of good times and ono kine grindz to be found here.Recommended for:

Kailua is an excellent, chill, family town on Oahu. It has a gorgeous beach at its state park. Also, in town there are several small retaurants and Morning Brew or Kalapawai coffee shops to get great coffee or other snacks.
