    Lanikai Beach

    95 reviews

One of my favorite beaches ever. We went snorkeling here, and the pictures we got were absolutely stunning. The water is pristine blue and very clear. This is what you would envision a Hawaiian beach to look like. The crowds here are opposite from what you'd find at Waikiki Beach which can be good or bad. But if you're looking ...

    Kailua Beach Park

    58 reviews

Tired of the Waikiki crowds and Honolulu's congested traffic? Drive (or take the bus) over the pali (mountains) to Oahu's Windward Coast. Kailua Bay has some gorgeous beaches for swimming and kayaking (best in the morning, when ocean waters are usually calm) or windsurfing and kitesurfing (best in the afternoon, when the wind picks up). If you want some more ...

    Mount Olomana

    9 reviews

The three peak trial is a hike with amazing views. It is quite a dangerous hike to the top for the inexperienced. At the very top, there were times where I had to scale the side of the ridge, which was extremely dangerous, but the views are well worth it.

    Lanikai Pillbox Trail

The hike is short but steep and if you lose your footing, you might slip, but the view from the top will take your breath away! Come here half an hour before sunrise. It's spectacular!

    Mokulua Islands

    11 reviews

Rent a kayak and paddle out to the Mokes. Some paddler and surfers surf the breaks near the islands. Watch for sharp coral! In very flat conditions you can land and walk around. But to be aware of nesting birds, and don't disturb them. The waves on the outside and bigger, and smaller on the inside, so there's usually something ...

    Maunawili Falls

    13 reviews

Maunawili Falls is great for hiking, seeing the tops of foggy mountains, and playing in waterfalls! It can get crowded near the falls on the weekends, and the trail is very slippery well after a rain. The views are beautiful and so are the falls.

    Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks

    12 reviews

The kayak tours are awesome - you can sit tandem or solo and choose how far you want to kayak. I did the 4-hour kayak tour with my then-boyfriend-now-husband and we both loved it! We started off in Kailua and kayaked to the Mokulua islands (there we got a tour of the island, queen's bath, wildlife, had lunch), then to ...

    Kailua Thursday Night Farmers' Market

    7 reviews

Kailua town have a nice set up for the local farmers market. It is right in the center of the town square. Lots of farmers and vendors selling food, drinks, and locally made things. The market has a nice mix of people from young to elders, a cool local vibe that supports the community. It is not touristy like the ...

    Kalama Beach Park

    7 reviews

North of the main Kailua Beach, Kalama is a local hangout. When used to be too big and rough for swimming, but bodyboarding is pretty rad. This is where families and residents come to take evening walks at sunset.

    Twogood Kayaks Hawaii Inc.

    4 reviews

A great paddle sport shop to rent a kayak for a day trip to the Mokes, or to sign up for a tour. They sell top-of-the line canoes and kayaks and surfskis, and beginner-friendly gear as well. A family-freindly place that also serves olympic-level paddlers. Bob Twogood has been in the business for decades and knows Oahu coastal conditions like ...

    Kawainui Marsh

    3 reviews

A tropical swamp of sorts, the Kawainui Marsh is a fun place to explore in an area of Oahu that is best suited for more environmentally focused attraction hunters. Eco-tourists everywhere will be hard pressed to find a more ecologically unique area in Hawaii to explore. This is the last thriving wetland on the islands, and is home to rare ...

Dylan is a super knowledgeable and friendly owner? who obviously has a passion for chocolate. They have sample tastings for all their chocolates and were even kind enough to show a demonstration of how they process their chocolate! YUM! Great hours and a nice place to visit while waiting for breakfast...or lunch.

    Ulupo Heiau State Historical Monument

    3 reviews

Not too many people who haven't lived in Hawaii have a clear understanding of the vibrant culture of Native Hawaiians that once ruled these islands. There are many museums in the state that provide a glimpse of how rich this society once was, but without seeing some of the remnants of this surprisingly complex infrastructure first hand, it's hard to ...

    Muumuu Heaven

    2 reviews

Muumuu Heaven is a great place to buy local artisanal goods and souvenirs. I love how they separate the items by color: white, sea green, blue, feels so beach-y and fun. They also carry a nice selection of clothing that's only sold in their store, some are one of a kind. If you want unique and beach inspired gifts, this ...

    Bookends In Kailua

    2 reviews

Bookends is a solid bookstore with everything from best sellers to kids books. But what I really love about this store is their section on Hawaiiana. They've got history, art, trail guides, field guides and snorkel/dive guides. And a section of fiction on Hawaii, and another section for Hawaiian authors. It's a great place to browse on a rainy day.

    Hawaiian Isle Adventures

    1 review

The day tour provided by Hawaiian Isle Adventures is easily the best way to quickly see some of the major attractions in Honolulu without transportation of your own. In fact, even if you had a car, you would likely end up at the same or similar places as the stops here, except you would have the oftentimes frustrating privilege of ...
