It's absolutley fascinating to visit the Karnak Temple, which is the biggest temple of Egypt.

Actually, I can say is : do not describe ... Words are nothing ... go and admire!
The size of this temple is amazing... it is like a history - book of the pharaonic-times till today. Stay not on the paths of the tourist flow: than you will discover things you will not find in any guidebook :-)

One of the first sights you will see when you visit Luxor. Easily accessible from town and very impressive. Relatively manageable but you'll want to seek out shade during the midday heat. A guided tour is a helpful way to understand what it was like originally and how it was used.

I always wanted to go here ever since I saw James Bond battle it out with Jaws among the pylons. This place is immense and it must have been really something when it was in all it's glory.

Beautiful temple. Much of the original items are still intact and some of the carvings are fantastic. Try go go early in the morning, as there are usually not as may people 1st thing.

So good, I went twice. It was better in February than May -- cooler & less overrun. Check out the newish Open Air Museum with Hatshepsut's reconstructed Bark Shrine of pink granite. For people interested in Egyptology, it's worth the extra entry fee. A good guide is useful -- there's just so much to see, it's mind numbing otherwise.

Beware the usual, though. On slow days, some of the guides are fakes who hide their official IDs -- just ask to see it. Also beware the local temple guards who actively solicit bribes. One racket is to let people climb onto middens in back of the Holy of Holies, then make a fuss and demand bribes ex post facto. The local governour is trying to put a stop to this, so they will back off quickly when you resist.

Description

The temple of Karnak was known as Ipet-isut (Most select of places) by the ancient Egyptians. It is a city of temples built over 2000 years and dedicated to the Theben triad of Amun, Mut and Khonsu. This derelict place is still capable of overshadowing many of the wonders of the modern world and in its day must have been awe inspiring.
