Kastanienallee is one of the main boulevards through the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. I would recommend a visit to get a feel for the area, and a bit of a walk off the well trodden paths through Mitte. Start at Rosenthaler Platz (at Tor Straße) and walk north up Weinburgsweg. If you're hungry, pop into Gorki Park for a meal or snack. If it's before 4pm, have one of the best breakfasts in Berlin (the Käsefrühstück or Vegetarisches Frühstück are my favourites). After you pass Weinburgspark on your left, you're on Kastanienallee - which is full of boutique shops (fashion, music, books, etc), bars and cafes. You'll eventually reach Prater on your left (a brilliant biergarten on the site of a former DDR era public swimming pool and a must-visit). Afterwards, head back down to Oderburger Straße - to the east is Oye Records (a great place for vinyl finds) and a short walk to the to the west is Mauerpark (http://www.gogobot.com/mauerpark-berlin-berlin-attraction), a park that used to be a wasteland during the Wall era, but now hosts a brilliant Sunday Flohmarkt (flea market).Recommended for:

A long and very cool street, which is also called Casting Alley, because you can see the cool Berlin hipsters walking up and down the street. Millions of small boutiques, restaurants, and funny stuff to see. A stroll here is a must for anyone under 30!Recommended for:
