This place is great. Best if you don't have a car, and some of the bathrooms are shared.
There are some awesome bars and restaurants right in the area as well.
Otherwise - staying out by the airport and taking BART into the city is also an affordable option.

The company that has the Columbus Motor Inn also has some sister motels on Lombard St. Great if you have a car. Less expensive rooms can be found near the airport. Then you can take BART into the city. I'd for something right in SF. It's so easy to walk everywhere.
