There's a reason why people flock to Katz's in herds. Their pastrami is some of the best I've ever had. The meaty goodness is SO flavorful and tender.
The cafeteria style place is a bit of a shit show though, with lines galore that make you feel like you're at Disneyland waiting to get on Space Mountain. You just have to be aggressive and squeeze your way into the shortest line you can find. The ordering system could be much more efficient, but I'm sure they've done this since 1888.
Unless you have a behemoth appetite, just get one sandwich to share. One reuben is large enough for two adults or four small children. In fact, I could only finish a quarter of my reuben. I don't know how many ounces of pastrami was in that thing, but my stomach felt like there was a brick in it after four bites. Plus it's $15, which should tell you that it's not just your ordinary reuben sammich.
Add a can of Dr. Brown's Root Beer and you're all set. Forget about taking a taxi out of there. You better walk that sandwich off!

Katz's Deli is a very popular deli in New York City. There are many out-of-towners who come here, but despite the large tourist presence, it's very lively and has local character. I would suggest trying their famous pastrami sandwich.Recommended for:Foodies

Given it's been open since 1888, Katz's Deli has certainly kept its status as the best deli in New York City serving the Lower East Side ever since the first immigrants were crowding the tenements of the area. Best pastrami sandwich in town, if not even cross borders. Not a whole lot to taste though if you're vegetarian. Always crowded, so plan accordingly.

How can any one forget the "When Harry met Sally" movie clip and hanging board above the table where they sat. Try their Pastrami sandwich, its quiet heavy and so is the crowd.

I come here for their amazing hot dogs though many come for the pastrami and corned beef. You used to be able to give a couple of bucks for some extra meat...but they are pretty big as is. The place has been around since 1888...go here, eat here...it's a true NY institution...

A New York City institution. Their meaty sandwiches were said to be popular and some of the best. I tried both the pastrami sandwich and the Reuben. While the pastrami meat was dry and forgettable (didn't even finish my half of the sandwich), I loved the Reuben! The corned beef was juicy, tender and flavorful. With cheese, it was bomb.com.
Metered street parking was available. Watch the signs and don't forget to put the paid parking stub on the car dash.

I knew about the hype around Katz's before I was even thinking of moving to New York and their corned beef sandwich certainly exceeded those expectations. Hint: We went as a late night spot (about 3/4 am) and there was NO line! Accidentally discovered that as the best time to go rather than waiting in the line that wraps around the block during the day.

Come here with an empty stomach because the portions are outrageous! The yummy meats are oozing out of the bread and one sandwich is enough to feed 2 healthy appetites. The pastrami is heavenly and if you like pickles, they have the whole cucumber here. Don't forget to get a slice of cheesecake for dessert, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and don't lose your order ticket, that's your exit pass or you get charged an arm and a leg to escape. :-)
