They only perform once everyday 20 mins before sunset and the show last for an hour through the sunset. Make sure you pick the right seat, if not you will not be able to see the sun set at the horizon. Uluwatu is known for its beautiful sunset. The seats filled pretty fast, make sure you came here on the right time. Show starts around 6 pm, i think.

The concept of watching the Kecak performance over sunset in Uluwatu temple was great. The Kecak and Ramayana performance itself was great and entertaining, with some slapsticks thrown here and there to spice up the story line. However, the organizer was definitely not considering the comfort of the audiences. They didn't apply reservation concept and they kept selling the ticket despite of the fact that there's no seating (rows of wooden benches that half-circles the performing area) available. When there's no seat available over in the wooden benches, they would pull out plastic chairs and placed them along the side of the performing area. Don't get me wrong.. The Kecak performance itself was wonderful, but I just wished the performance would be more professionally organized.

This show overtly panders to tourists, but if you take it for what it is worth (a visual performance rather than meaningful cultural ceremony) it is quite compelling. Plenty of fire and intricate costumes in front of a gorgeous clifftop backdrop.

kecak itself is the unique dance and something like ritual for balinese. so feel the emotional when see many men raise their hands up and say "kecak , cak, cak ...simultaneously..

Description

While Prince Rama was indeed brave and skilled, he still required a bit of aid from the monkey-like Vanara in defeating the notorious King Ravana and saving his love, the Princess Sita. The Balinese Kecak depicts this epic battle today through dance and music. Over 150 performers interact in the Ramayana Monkey Chant, clothed in loose garments with arms raised around a ceremonial circle. Western fascination of this cultural practice has led to the presence of the Kecak in film, music and even video games. Visitors to Indonesia can witness the real chant in action at the Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple.
