The Kerry Hotel Pudong is unquestionably my top hotel choice for business travelers. In fact, even as a non-businessperson, I’d have a hard time turning down an invitation to move into this hotel permanently. Between the fitness facilities—some of the largest and best equipped in Shanghai and the numerous F&B outlets, it’s got everything you could ever want or need. The Kerry Sports Center offers daily fitness classes including hot yoga, spinning and even belly dance. There’s an excellent upscale steakhouse, all day dining restaurant that serves international cuisine and an onsite brewery. Beyond the impressive facilities, what truly makes this hotel top notch is the attention to detail: the staff is all super friendly, the mini fridge is free (and includes two beers from the hotel’s own brewery) and Wi-Fi is also free throughout the hotel. It’s the perfect place to stay on a business trip (it’s very close to the Pudong airport and has a large business center for guests) or to bring the kids for a weekend of family fun. The children’s center is enormous and includes three large slides that you’ll have to pry the kids off of. The only drawback is that the hotel is pretty far from the city center, but if you’re looking to get away from it all, this is definitely the place to go (a Wushu stress relief massage doesn’t hurt either).

Very nice hotel, very nice modern rooms, but location is not great. This five star hotel certainly knows how to do luxury, and features some great services like the cool beer bar on the ground floor, but the location is in an area of uninspired modern buildings and roads.

Located in the heart of Pudong is the Kerry Hotel. When I say the “heart of Pudong”, don’t confuse that for the heart of Shanghai. In fact, the Kerry is a bit of a hike from downtown Shanghai. That being said, if you have business in the area or want to be close to nearby Jinqiao, then this is a nicely situated hotel. Across the street from one of Shanghai’s biggest parks (century Park) and one metro stop away from the notorious Science and Tech fake market, it’s possible that your Shanghai adventure would take you this far east anyways. The rooms are clean, simple and modern. Some even overlook the greenery of Century Park and the neatly aligned houses of “mini America”. The hotel has one of the best equipped fitness centers I’ve seen, including a spinning studio, lap pool, basketball (half) court and some crazy Chinese kiddie land play area. If you’re in town on business and short on time, the Kerry has some dining outlets that are sure to please. The BREW is their brewery where you can taste some of their delicious hoppy concoctions (think pumpkin ale), or enjoy top quality dining at The COOK. You can tell that every detail was carefully planned to make sure you have the best hotel and dining experience possible. Four stars because its just....far.
