What an awesome street.. Tons of backpackers walking the street no matter what time it is. If you're looking for authentic cultural stuff to do this is not going to be it. But if you're looking for a good time chilling out then you're bound to meet lots of interesting people here. The clubs and the drinks(buckets lol) that you get outside on the road are buzzing and there's a lot of a 'buzz' going on down this street.Recommended for:

Lots of backpacker hostels, but to be honest, I've only been here at night for drinks with friends who were staying at hostels. They loved their accommodations and I loved the lively neighborhood!Recommended for:

A place for all the expats, backpackers, budget travelers, nightlife lovers, and anything in between. It's a fun, wild, and crazy place to be, but a must-see if you are in Bangkok.Recommended for:

Perhaps the original but maybe just most famous backpacker ghetto in the world. Chock full of guesthouses, cafes, street food, shopping, western food catering to drunk backpackers. It was/ still is a shopping district for Thais, but it has become overrun with foreigners and now is more famous for the party center of backpackers.Recommended for:

a famous backpacker street in Bangkok. The street at night is filled with tourists from the West and as well as Japanese. Hot and sweaty but great for a bargain. The main st in Bangkok, every one goes here, It even features in the film The beach. Fake bags and t-shirts and fishermen pants for very cheap if you try. it was my favorite thing in Bangkok. there's loads of pubs down it to so you can people watch. good for every one.Recommended for:

Khaosan Road is a must-go-to-place as a backpacker. It's a place that is alive MOST at night. The locals are there to sell you food, clothing, tattoos, drinks, and mostly a good time. Be wary of those who may overprice their wares- most items can be found for 50 baht or cheaper at popular stores such as Big C. There are many places to stay on Khaosan Road itself, and it's very very budget friendly. If you're looking for a good time in Bangkok, this is a great place to go to!Recommended for:

It is a dirty sleezplace. If you are interested how prostitues and drunk backpackers looks like - visit this place. Lots of sex shows etc. definitely not place for families with kids. If you are lonely backpacker you will meet many new people who are doing the same like you in there.Recommended for:

The famous Khan San Road! You will either love or hate "the original backpacker district." Personally, I love khao San road and whenever I visit Thailand, I always start off my trip with a few nights in Khao San.Recommended for:

The mother and archetype of backpacker ghettos the world over, Khaosan is either the dream or the nightmare of the committed traveller: cheap, divey lodging, 75-cent pad thai, plastic buckets of redbull and Thai whisky, and more shady and colorful characters than you can shake a stick at. WE DO NOT CHECK ID announces one bar sprinkled with blearly-eyed gap-year kids, who just down the street can can buy everything from fake driver's licenses to fake press passes. For the full experience, grab a Beer Chang from the 7-Eleven and just walk the street, taking it all in. Love it or hate it, it's an experience.Recommended for:

This place is filled with tourist! But it is a fun street to visit for shopping, massages, restaurants, and people watching. The street food such as pad thai for 50 baht or coconut ice cream for 40 baht. definitely a place to check out at night in Bangkok.

Khao San Road is the focal point of all backpackers in Southeast Asia. It's possible to meet people from all over the world traveling low badget but there is nothing interesting to see. It's convenient for those who need to take a break after a bus trip (many tour buses stop right there) and then leave for other destinations. Nice book stores and guides used or photocopiedRecommended for:

A backpacker's ghetto where you're likely to see a whole host of farang from all over the world drunk out of their skulls, scoring fake documents or selling their iPods to extend their trips in Southeast Asia. The locals have long since moved on but occassionaly they pop in to see what kind of aberrant manifestations the foreigners have made of their culture.Recommended for:

It's packed with backpackers. If you want mediocre western food, then go here. But seriously, why would you want to come all the way to Thailand and be surrounded by Westerns and eat white bread with jam? I would avoid this place like the plague.Recommended for:

Loved the "backpackers road"! Awsome athmosphere, a lot of bars, restaurants, shops, massages, 24 hrs tailors...although too touristic, it was great for shopping and going out. The only place where we saw insect sellers.Recommended for:

Selling good items but if you are looking for thailand/bangkok tshirt better go to MBK plaza.. They are selling 9.9bath for each compare to normal price at Koah San Road which is 20bath.. Fyi the one in MBK level 2 at the end of the shop let and the design was nice!

Bustling shops, massage parlors and restaurants. This place is filled with tourists and young people looking to shop or find some fun. Don't be afraid to bargain and make sure you are familiar with the exchange rate. Everything is so cheap, even an hour long massage will only set you back less than $10 including tip!! Have a blast and watch out for pickpockets...I never saw any but heard they were around.
