What an awesome street.. Tons of backpackers walking the street no matter what time it is. If you're looking for authentic cultural stuff to do this is not going to be it. But if you're looking for a good time chilling out then you're bound to meet lots of interesting people here. The clubs and the drinks(buckets lol) that you get outside on the road are buzzing and there's a lot of a 'buzz' going on down this street.

Lots of backpacker hostels, but to be honest, I've only been here at night for drinks with friends who were staying at hostels. They loved their accommodations and I loved the lively neighborhood!

A place for all the expats, backpackers, budget travelers, nightlife lovers, and anything in between. It's a fun, wild, and crazy place to be, but a must-see if you are in Bangkok.

Perhaps the original but maybe just most famous backpacker ghetto in the world. Chock full of guesthouses, cafes, street food, shopping, western food catering to drunk backpackers. It was/ still is a shopping district for Thais, but it has become overrun with foreigners and now is more famous for the party center of backpackers.

a famous backpacker street in Bangkok. The street at night is filled with tourists from the West and as well as Japanese. Hot and sweaty but great for a bargain. The main st in Bangkok, every one goes here, It even features in the film The beach. Fake bags and t-shirts and fishermen pants for very cheap if you try. it was my favorite thing in Bangkok. there's loads of pubs down it to so you can people watch. good for every one.

This place is filled with tourist! But it is a fun street to visit for shopping, massages, restaurants, and people watching. The street food such as pad thai for 50 baht or coconut ice cream for 40 baht. definitely a place to check out at night in Bangkok.

Khao San Road is the focal point of all backpackers in Southeast Asia. It's possible to meet people from all over the world traveling low badget but there is nothing interesting to see. It's convenient for those who need to take a break after a bus trip (many tour buses stop right there) and then leave for other destinations. Nice book stores and guides used or photocopied

A backpacker's ghetto where you're likely to see a whole host of farang from all over the world drunk out of their skulls, scoring fake documents or selling their iPods to extend their trips in Southeast Asia. The locals have long since moved on but occassionaly they pop in to see what kind of aberrant manifestations the foreigners have made of their culture.

The mother and archetype of backpacker ghettos the world over, Khaosan is either the dream or the nightmare of the committed traveller: cheap, divey lodging, 75-cent pad thai, plastic buckets of redbull and Thai whisky, and more shady and colorful characters than you can shake a stick at. WE DO NOT CHECK ID announces one bar sprinkled with blearly-eyed gap-year kids, who just down the street can can buy everything from fake driver's licenses to fake press passes. For the full experience, grab a Beer Chang from the 7-Eleven and just walk the street, taking it all in. Love it or hate it, it's an experience.
