There are firepits here, and a great view from the bluff. I heard that the trial down to the ocean has recently eroded though. Watch out for poison oak everywhere here.

This is possibly the most beautiful campground in California. It sits perched on a cliff above the ocean, with spectacular views in both directions of mountains cascading to the sea. It is a short walk down a path to a rocky beach. In the last year they stopped offering running water here (apparently because the insurance costs of the manual treatment were too high), so you need to bring your own. There is a little grocery store about 10 mins north on the highway 1 where you can buy some. You can also drive 5 mins up the road to Limekiln State Park where you can take showers and get water.

If you like to camp - Kirk Creek is one of the best camping spot in California! Very simple with minimum facilities though. This year there was no running water and only Port-a-pottys. But if you pay a day use in the next campground at Limekiln (which I defenitly recommend for a short but pretty hike to a wonderful waterfall) then you can use the showers there and fill up your water.

You will be amazed by the view at Kirk Creek. Be sure to book well in advanced because there aren't many sites. We had a super view of the ocean. There are also a few trails that let you walk down to the beach where you can take amazing pictures. Facilities are just ok though. I've seen better campground bathroom. The campground ranger was super nice!

Description

Voted by Sunset Magazine as one of the best campgrounds in the west, this campsite sits on a bluff overlooking the Pacific on one of Big Sur's most scenic stretches. There is a small path down from the campsite to a rocky beach. It does not offer running water, so pack your own. You can pay the day use fee at nearby Limekiln State Park and fill up water there. The campsite does not take reservations.
