Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous botanical gardens set in the lee of Table Mountain's southern flank, which towers above them, Kirstenbosch is nothing short of delightful. Showcasing the indigenous flora of the Western Cape, its sprawling, immaculately manicured lawns, arboreta, glades, and flower gardens are home to scads of bird- and animal-life, and make together make for what is likely Cape Town's most beautiful non-beach outing. Grab a bottle of Simonsig Chenin Blanc, a baguette, and some brie, and make it a picnic.

The best time to go is when the proteas bloom (August was good for me). All year round the park is still excellent with great trails, themed gardens to explore, and lots of bird life. It's easy to spend hours here even if you aren't a plant enthusiast. During the summer they have a great concert series as well.

Simply stunning! I have spent hours in this place, and plan to keep doing that for as long as I stay in Cape Town. It's an island of peace amidst a busy city. I believe this is as good as a park or a garden can be, and I haven't even seen it during the spring yet! =D
