Island of happy hues, beaches and people too. Lots to do or just have no agenda. Each beach is unique so have an explore via moped or car. West side is quiet but beaches more rugged. East side bustles and Chewang beach itself has pitch perfect sand. Heaps of health retreats if you are keen for a wellbeing getaway.

The beach at Haad Tien, a small cove dominated by the Sanctuary Wellness Resort, a friendly and informal place, recommended if you want to join one of their detox programs. Not very recommended for the casual traveller, a bit pricey with a below average beach.

I've spent three weeks now exploring the Samui archipelago and despite all what all the guide books say, I think this island is the best. Smaller than Ko Samui, and lacking the full moon parties on Phangan, this island rates with me for its scenery, beaches, and abundant laid back night life. Definitely worth the trip.
