This resort features an ideal Poipu location, some of the best fine dining on the island on-site, and access to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions within walking distance. I really liked Red Salt for breakfast/brunch.

Poipu has its beachfront resort hotels and condos, but if you want hip modern style, this romantic boutique hotel may seduce you into paying top-dollar room rates. More intimate than the big chains, this sweet escape has apartment-style suites ringed around a small tropical pool. Valet parking only (no self-parking).

Beautiful and quiet. Offers the luxury of the Grand Hyatt without all the screaming kids. Service is impeccable and the food is divine. Located right in front of a premier island surf spot: Waiohai and snorkel spot. Be sure to indulge in the in-room Nespresso machine!

Koa Kea is one of my favorite places in Kauai but would not appeal to those who want pizzazz. Perhaps, that's why I like it so much. It is on the small side, as compared to the mega resorts that are nearby, rooms are spacious and we had a wonderful oceanfront view this stay. The negative is that balconies and terraces are not as private as I'd like, a minor annoyance. If I wanted a mega grand resort on the South Shore, I'd pick the Grand Hyatt. My preference, as I stated, is a little less size and fewer guests.

My wife and I stayed 10 days at this luxurious hotel for our honeymoon. It sits right at the ocean's edge in the small, up-beat town of Poipu on Kauai's southernmost point. We checked-in in the evening and enjoyed a complementary local fruit plate, including our favorite: fresh, juicy mango. During our stay, we were happy to wake up late. The bed was so comfortable and roomy. We frequently had breakfast on our partial-ocean view patio (complete with nice table and two chairs). We would walk down the stairs and immediately see the water hitting up on the shore. We'd order a spiked mango smoothie and lounge on the beach. A few days we rented snorkeling gear (c.$5/set). Another day I signed up for a surfing lesson (c.$75). The next day I took a board out and surfed again while my wife watched from the shore. The staff was very friendly, from the bartender to the cleaning staff. My wife especially enjoyed how the greeting staff and check-in employees remembered our names and called us "Mr. .... and Mrs. ... " It was really a nice touch. We dream about returning to this hotel and talk about how great it would be if we were given the chance. We highly recommend it!
