Kuala Lumpur Hotel Insider
It may be one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in the world, an important trading center, and the political and economical hub of Malaysia, but Kuala Lumpur doesn’t skimp on what it offers its millions of visitors and locals alike. Whether you like shopping, ... read more
sampling unique Asian street food, or admiring the high rise buildings that have sprouted up in the formerly sleepy Chinese colony, Kuala Lumpur won’t disappoint.

Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Perhaps its biggest draw to tourists is the number of five-star hotels for three-star prices; indeed, Kuala Lumpur boasts plenty of posh accommodations at a fraction of their cost in other parts of the world. Try the famous Traders Hotel, where you can savor a drink and front-row view of the Petronas Twin Towers from the sky bar, or indulge in a traditional Indonesian Balinese massage at the Swiss-Garden Hotel. Likewise, the Mandarin Oriental is exquisite with its artfully designed Asian flair, and the Seri Pacific Hotel offers a memorable dining experience with their renowned Kofuku Japanese food.

Self-described budget hotels in Kuala Lumpur are a great option for those with shallow pockets, as you’ll likely score a mid-range classy room for cheap. The Ginger Hotels group is a popular brand in Asia and has several locales in Kuala Lumpur, but for a more unique experience try Le Apple Boutique Hotel, where you can stay in one of their many “Zen-styled” rooms. The Lotus Hotel Masjid India is another great budget choice right in the heart of Little India; you can enjoy free mineral water and snack stations throughout the hotel.

Attractions & Environs
There is a plethora of things to do in Kuala Lumpur, and you’ll have plenty of lodging options wherever you want to stay in the city. Shopping is perhaps the number one attraction, with no less than 33 malls and thousands of stores offering everything from homemade trinkets to luxury furniture to bootlegged music and movies. The biggest draw is at Berjaya Times Square, a massive complex comprising of twin towers, an indoor amusement park and a shopping mall all in one. In fact, when you’re finished exploring the mini world, get some rest at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel -- it’s literally attached to the mall.

For a more nitty-gritty experience, parts of the city like Bukit Bintang, Sungei Wang Plaza, Chinatown, and Petaling Street, where you are encouraged to try your hand at haggling, are also immensely popular shopping hotspots. After a day of bargain-hunting hang your hat at one of many cozy accommodations in the area, like Furama or My Hotel @ Bukit Bintang.

If shopping isn’t your thing (or even if it is), be sure to make time for Malaysia’s roots in ancient religion and art: the sacred and grand Thean Hou Temple is worth a tour of all six of its majestic tiers, and the legendary Batu Caves, though further out from the city, is the most popular Hindu shrine outside of India. If you want to stay central, the Museum of Islamic Art is an eye-opening experience for Westerners, and the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is fun for the whole family. In between attractions, be sure to stop and sample the famous banana leaf dishes, cheap and available on nearly every street corner throughout the city.

    Matahari Lodge

    Matahari Lodge

    4
    3 reviews

This place is right in Chinatown, so food and faux Louis Vuitton luggage are never a problem to find. It has clean bathrooms and dorms for around thirty ringgit ($10 U.S.) and single rooms for forty-five ringgit ($15 U.S.) which is hard (but not impossible) to beat. There are repeat stayers because it is a clean, cheap place with nice ...

Back Home Malaysia can be a good home to temporary residence in KL. I've been staying here every time in KL, and I like it a lot. Wi-Fi works great, staff are friendly, there are so many good local restaurants in the area. Located right near Masjid Jamek LRT station. Only a couple stops away from the twin tower.

    Villa Samadhi

Villa Samadhi is the kind of place where within an hour of checking in, I had taken a rain-shower and a jacuzzi in my room, wrapped myself in a Balinese sarong, stretched out on the king size white-white bed, and was feeling under absolutely no pressure to do much else. It felt nice, and for most of my stay I ...

The Ritz-Carlton has a very Old English Imperial feeling to the atmosphere. It is as though when you walked into the place the whole building has gone back time to the 1900s. I like the lobby lounge because of the chairs have high back support which makes me laze around the lounge longer than i would have. The swimming pool ...

Ancasa Express is central to everything, you just name it from PUDU SENTRAL BUS STATION, to nearby LRT STATION. It's walkable to MERDEKA SQUARE, and a 15 minute walk to BUKIT BINTANG Area. The prices are reasonable and the rooms are clean. Staff are experienced and friendly. I stayed here a few times. But for a bit more money you ...

This place looks like a museum to me. It has really unique architecture from the outside which makes it one of a kind. When you enter there is no reception counter right in front of you but there is a resting area which is really comfortable to browse around. The reception counter is to the left. This is one of ...

This hostel is a stunning oasis of comfort and cleanliness amidst a precarious backpacker world. This is one of the only cases in which it will ever be OK to sleep in a 25 person dormitory. You get your own private pod-like bed with a curtain and plenty of storage space. The free breakfast is remarkable. Actually, so are the ...

MiCasa All Suite Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Mi Casa is by the embassies and banks, so it's geared toward long-term stays for ex-pats. A guesthouse in two parts: a budget wing with cheap as chips dorms and the other part which offers private bedrooms with either en suite or shared bathrooms. Crowne Plaza Hotel Kuala Lumpur

The Crowne Plaza is not horribly expensive and it's in a really good location for transportation. It's right by Raja Chulan monorail station and The Twin Towers are within walking distance. However, it does feel like a not so opulent hotel occupying a formerly opulent hotel's physical building, which I believe it might be. The dated gym depressed me. I ...

The business ownership has changed and now run by non-Malaysians. So you can't find the "local hospitality" any more. And the nice photos on their website showing happy travellers are no longer relevant. The Jawa-style decoration has been replaced with all Islamic fixtures. My recent 3-day stay at greenhut was a total disatisfaction. On the third day, I returned to ...

The only bonus you get staying at the Impiana KLCC Hotel & Spa is it's location, and perhaps the bridge that connects to it which leads you to the Pavilion.
