One of my favorite cities in Malaysia, Kuching is a beautifully designed city that incorporates nature almost everywhere you go. The walk along the river is beautiful at sunset, and tons of restaurants set up tables along the cobblestone strip. Once you've sampled the food and seen a few of the impressive temples, make sure to take a bus to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to see orangutans in their almost-completely-natural environment.Recommended for:Backpackers

This is a city that definitely grows on you. A city you planned on staying in for a day and end hanging out for 3. Its a great jumping off point for trips to various national parks through various well run hostels. The food is incredible ranging from Chinese bbq to Indian lamb kofta. The people here are also very friendly.
It also providers a dose of much needed civilization. Whether it be restocking on books, having a cold beer, or going to the cinema.
